"Shed Skin"

In the world of #monsterhunter , #KushalaDaora is unique among #elderdragons for it's metal skin. However, it comes with a drawback. Overtime, the skin rusts, requiring it to be shedded when it gets to bad.
"Shed Skin" Ink on Bristol Board The image depicts the recently shed of a Kushala Daora skin. A tear runs along the spine of the shedded skin, exposing the hollow inside. Kushala is an elder dragon from the world of monster hunter, with four legs and a pair of wings. The shed retains it shape thanks to it's composition, looking as though it is simply resting. A dragon shaped shadow flies off in the distance, perhaps the skins former owner.

On of the neat things that has developed recently in terms of #Paleontology has been the study of melanosomes (color pigment) in preserved skin, scales and feathers. #Anchiornis was one of the first to reveal it true ancient colors. #Paleoart #art
"Portrait of Anchiornis" Acrylic on Canvas The subject of this painting is he species of paravian Dinosaur, thought to be a link between the Avian and Non-avian Dinosaurs. Due to the nature of its holotype fossil, and study of ancient pigment within the feathers, we have a good understanding of the color integument of this animal. The animal is a dark gray in color along the body, with a black mark going from just behind the eye all the way up to the end of the snout. The tip of the snout is of a yellow color similar to modern day ducks. Adorned on the top of the animal's head is a bright red crest, with white speckling at the tips of the feathers. A red mark goes goes down the side of the head right where the skull meets the neck. The animal has sky blue eyes, one of the few liberties I was able to take in depicting this creature.

"Shadow Under an Ancient Eclipse" Acrylic on Black Canvas The painting depicts the North American Azhdarchidae, Quetzalcoatlus, as it flies under a total solar eclipse almost 66 million years ago. This creature's namesake, the Aztec Sun God of the same name, was often associated with the cycles of the Sun as well as solar eclipses. The animal is a large pterosaur, notable for its long neck and Beak in contrast to its short Stout body. Despite the sun being blocked by the moon, lights still permeates around the ring, partially Illuminating the skin membrane that makes up the animal's wings. Veins and arteries can also be clearly seen through the wing. Otherwise the rest of the body is draped in Shadow, with only a thin white outline to illuminate the animals silhouette.

Body S curves as it swims through the water leaving a subtle wake and it's path. The painting is done in a monochrome color scheme, using a variety of Grays and whites to depict depth within the water.

The other side of the shark column, this side depicting a a great hammerhead and a goblin shark. I had also had further plans to include a whale shark higher up onto the column as well. Another obstacle for the indoor mini golf course, this one depicting a angler fish as it lures a deep sea prawn into an ambush. This was actually the first full painting that I did for the company. Another obstacle for the indoor mini golf course, this one depicts the barrel-eyed fish. Being a rare and little understood deep sea fish, I was rather actually quite excited to paint this one for the course.

For a short period of time, I found myself working at a for-profit aquarium called seaquest. While there, I did quite a number of decorative pieces for the establishment. The following is a small example of what I had saved.
Pictured is a decorative obstacle for an indoor mini golf course at the establishment I used to work at. Depicted on the obstacle is a rendition of a whale's tail reaching the water. The Tail fin is overall White with dark highlights around the edge and base of the Fin. A column depicting various freshwater fish from around the world. Included subjects are the electric eel, Wels catfish, goliath tigerfish, American paddlefish, and the South American arapaima. Another obstacle for the indoor golf course, this one depicts a mangrove tree filled with various South American species. These species include an osprey, two yellow and blue macaws, a Toco toucan, a spiny tailed iguana, and cowbird. Unfortunately I did not have time to fully finish this one. Another column that I decorated, this one covered in various sharks from around the world. Sharks included in this piece are are the horned shark, thresher shark, short fin Mako, and frilled shark. There are other species on the other side as well.

"KORI BUSTARD ON BLACK" Acrylic on Black Canvas The painting depicts a bust of a bird known as a Kori Bustard. The bird species is native to Southern and central Africa and is the heaviest flying bird in the world. The bird has gray feathers with dark highlights, a moderately sized gray beak with White markings surrounding the eyes and mouth. Several large black feathers ornate the top of the bird's head and markings reminiscent of eyebrows. The bird has striking yellow eyes and curves its neck into an S shape.

One of my very few oil paintings, a medium I never really caught on to. That being said the method creating this was rather quite interesting. Instead of just simply painting the skull itself, I used mineral spirits to remove the already dried on oil paint. #art

The pond is irregular in shape, with a jagged Shore lined with black sand and a small well pouring in from the upper right corner, feeding the entity. The surrounding landscape is barren, covering an either Ash or snow or a mix of both, with a blackened dead tree as the only sign of foliage.

Particular favorite of mine, the painting depicts a particular bird home that a particular Zoo that I used to work at. Out of all of the animals that live there, she was one that had the most personality. #art #natureart
"ZAZU OF ATLANTA" Acrylic on Canvas The painting depicts a bust of a female southern ground hornbill by the name of Zazu. She is defined by the large black splotch that ornate her waddle that drapes down her neck. The water is a crimson red color that stretches from the bottom of her beak all the way down to the bottom of her neck. Her yellow are surrounded by bare skin sharing that same crimson color. Her feathers are an ebony black and she has a long black bill that curves downward. She also has a small set of feathers on her eyelid that resembles eyelashes. This is all painted over a copper background.
