Totally agree re: the punishing Italian rail system. We only just realised that we needed to take our fully timed/dated tickets to a tiny out of the way machine to also pointlessly validate them too, and that's only because I had been to Italy ages ago.

Whilst I don't really want them to change this one, I tend to agree. The dithering is unbearable, even over relatively trifling things like this.

Why not? I think a large part of why they're introducing it is to tighten up on people working illegally.

Fair point, perhaps that's a bad example. What about all the non-optional stuff already in place though? e.g. HMRC has all your info. You have an NI number already. You are required to have a driving license to drive and a passport to travel, which are things most want to do. Are ID cards worse?

People gladly hand over more information than this to Tesco to get 50 pence off their pringles, so no I don't understand it either.

Put another way, if we have "one of the highest minimum wages in the OECD" but are not in the highest echelons of wealth of the OECD as a country, then is that the right thing to do? Whilst it would be great to give everyone more money in real terms, there's a cost to that.

I'm not convinced they're wrong about the min. wage. The minimum wage has risen far above inflation in the past 5 years whilst the economy has deteriorated. If our productivity isn't high enough to warrant it, should it be rising above inflation? Genuine question, my mind is open.

I agree. People complain about inflation and the cost of living crisis, yet the minimum wage has skyrocketed well above any measure of inflation you care to mention in the last 5 years. Perhaps it was too low before, but let's not pretend there's no consequence to this.

Though I wasn't a fan in general, it seemed to me that May was harshly done by there. Social care needed reform and still does.

Still gives me shivers to be honest. That was an incredible few years - and all on 'normal' TV so anybody could watch. Such a shame we don't have that anymore.
