Adopt senior cats
I'm stretching "near the convention center" a bit, I admit, but all are reasonably walkable

Relatively close (more in the Cap Hill direction):

1) Saint John's has a big patio in back (and RIPS)
2) Tavolata has limited outdoor seating
3) Terra Plata has a roof deck
4) Stoup Brewing usually has food trucks out front and has plenty of open air areas
5) Tamari Bar has outdoor space

YMMV

We had pet insurance for two senior cats.

One had pre-existing kidney disease and the insurer linked a lot of her medical costs to that. They didn't pay anything out, so it was decidedly not worth it and we canceled her policy.

With our other cat, the policy easily paid for itself twice over.

Slime molds are really good at public transit planning though:

Using a 'virtual slime mold' to design a subway network less prone to disruption
It doesn't have a brain and survives on rotting vegetable matter—but it could offer valuable insights into city planning, according to a team of University of Toronto researchers.

Yoshitaka Amano (co-creator of the OVA Angel's Egg) did the art for the Japanese covers of BotNS, and Angel's Egg seems to be big inspiration for Miyazaki and his Souls games. I suspect there's actually a pretty straight creative line from Gene Wolfe to Dark Souls.
