I agreee with you! I don’t blame the protestors or think they’re culpable for any of this even if a protest gets violent and I don’t think this statement does either I just think it’s like “hey Trump wants violence to justify more violence. Just so you know”.

But theres a difference between threatening the insurrection act and enacting it. He’s threatened this before with Chicago this summer. I think the reason he’s threatening it and not just moving forward with deploying troops (which he wants) is because they need to have some justification for it.

I agree that putting the responsibility on people being brutalized is very unfair but I think, if given even the slightest chance, the state would escalate more. They’re itching to send in troops. Since the state won’t stop this I don’t know what else you would say to try to prevent more death?

I’ve seen so many takes about how this statement proves how little dems care about Americans but like idk what else he was going to say?! Like it’s horrific to watch a US city be brutally occupied by our gov’t but he can’t say “shoot to kill these agents”. This admin is horny for violent escalation

They’re asking for more money for ICE in this budget (and dems should do what they can to not fund that) but the agency has more than enough to continue operations. I think in the reconciliation bill they got like multiple billions of dollars. I just want to be clear eyed about what the reality is.

ICE and CBP would still have money to operate in a shutdown. They’re funded out of the reconciliation bill that no dem voted for. So shutting the government down wouldn’t stop this shit. I’m not saying you shouldn’t force a shutdown on principle but the outcome wouldn’t change.

As a now former federal worker (just terminated this week lol) this year has been 5 million eons. I am in awe at all my colleagues who get up everyday and are forced to just eat shit and are able to go home and do it again the next day. Civil servants are a different breed.
