It was an honour to be a part of the outCT "Piece of Mind Annual Mental Health Symposium" & share about the intersection of disability & queerness. How important rest and resilience are to justice work. It was amazing to learn so much from others that, as well.

Had a lovely time this weekend w Rep Bumgardner & so many wonderful Stonington candidates & our neighbors. Getting to chat abt questions, thoughts, concerns abt our community was a great exp. We're lucky to have so many well-informed, curious, kind people living in our towns (& running for office!)

📣 I'm running for Stonington Board of Education, and I've been endorsed by the Working Families Party!

I'm looking forward to a very community-centric, inclusive, authentic campaign.

It's not "official official" til the SOTS says so, but...

I've got all the signatures & then some from folks in our town to appear on the ballot this November as a Working Families Party candidate for Board of Ed here in Stonington!

Stay tuned - it's gonna be great

I have the best friends, the most beautiful community. I can't WAIT to share some exciting news as soon as it's OFFICIAL official 😏

Suffice it to say, we're moving & shaking in a beautiful, authentic way here in Stonington. I'm STOKED!

Also inspired by Twitter user Charlie Knight, here are some wheelchair etiquette "do's"!

1. DO offer to open the door for us, just like you would for anyone else. But please remember not to move us, no touching! Just like anyone else lol.

Taking advantage of #DisabilityPride month to do some quick wheelchair etiquette, inspired by Charlie Knight on twitter (& my own exhausting experiences) -

Did you know that, if you manage to jump through all the hoops and actually get #disability from the government, that means you're now living in forced poverty? Like, by definition.

The average an individual receives is between $800 and $1,100 per month.

Did you know that there is a #DisabilityPride flag? There sure is. This is it!

It was designed by Ann Magill, disabled woman, with feedback from the disabled community.

The flag is designed to represent some very specific aspects of disabled life. Let's explore this beautiful and intention design!

So, what can we do to combat ableism? That thing we've talked about for like 3 days now lol

The answer is both simple and complex -
July 29, 2025 at 1:31 PM
Continuing yesterday's theme of #ableism, I want to talk about #ableist language & microaggressions. We know about some of the big ones, like the "R" word (or I hope we know about that one by now!), but I want to talk about some of the more subtle ones.

#DisabilityPride is so incredibly cool, but I guess we can't talk about it without talking about #ableism. I mean, we wouldn't need disability pride without it, right?

First off, what is ableism?
It's simply discrimination in favor of abled folk or against disabled humans.

#DisabilityPride is important because, so often, disabled folx are viewed through a lens of pity. And while compassion is appreciated, we don't want or need your pity. We want and need #equality and #equity!

#DisabilityPride is so incredible! I love it so much! As you probably know, I do a lot of artwork that features my own disabled body and highlights my disability, whether it's using my mobility aids, or leaning into my weird hypermobility (thanks #EhlersDanlosSyndrome!)

#FarrahGoesToTheDoctor - Spine Surgery edition

Thursday, bright and early, I showed up at the hospital for my long-anticipated surgery.

It was a very long day of surgery and recovery, (i have many funny stories of drugged-up Farrah, fear not) but my medical team was beyond fantastic!

Belated , but...
July is #DisabilityPrideMonth!

Disability Pride Month has been a thing since the ADA was passed, July 26, 1990. Boston had the 1st Disability Pride event that year to celebrate. Every July since we've partied, educated, generally reveled in the beauty/diversity of our community!

I called my fed & state legislators & asked them to create/execute law(s) that would keep immigration/LEO's from concealing their identities/agency affiliations

This is SO important for transparency/accountability - to hold LEO's accountable, also to keep randos from kidnapping ppl off the street.

I called to ask my Fed Legislators to support S.J.Res.59/H.Con.Res.38, the war powers res, & curtail the Trump admin's ability to involve the U.S. in the Israel-Iran war w/o congressional authorization.

Congress MUST keep its authority & keep us from getting into yet another fk*n endless war. Jfc.
