I'm reaching out to share this backgrounder on key legal and policy concerns around President Trump's Jan. 29 order to expand the Migrant Operations Center (MOC) at Guantánamo to house "high-priority criminal aliens." This move is unprecedented, xenophobic, and raises serious human rights concerns. As has been reported, the first transfer flight took place on February 4, a second is in transit, and tents are being built for additional migrants. Temporary Suspension of Hostilities: - A temporary cessation of military operations by both sides. - Israeli forces will withdraw from populated areas in Gaza to a zone along the border, including Wadi Gaza (Netsarim Axis and Kuwait Square). 2. Air Activity Restrictions: - A temporary suspension of military and reconnaissance air operations in Gaza for 10 hours daily. - Extended to 12 hours on days when hostages and prisoners are released. 3. Return of Displaced Persons and Military Withdrawals: - Day 7: Following the release of seven Palestinian detainees, Israeli forces will withdraw entirely from Al-Rashid Street eastward to Salah Al-Din Street, dismantling all military positions. Hostage and Prisoner Exchange: - Hamas will release 33 Israeli hostages (alive or deceased), including women, children under 19, elderly individuals over 50, and injured or sick civilians. - For each Israeli released, Israel will release 30 Palestinian minors or women. - For each Israeli female soldier released, Israel will release 50 Palestinian prisoners. 6. Release Schedule: - Day 1: Hamas releases three Israeli civilian hostages. - Day 7: Hamas releases four additional Israeli civilians. - Every seven days, three more hostages will be released, prioritizing wom… - By Week 6, Israel will release 47 Palestinians re-arrested after the 2011 exchange deal. Final Exchanges and Infrastructure Rebuilding: - Both sides will exchange bodies of deceased individuals once identified. - A comprehensive Gaza reconstruction plan will be implemented over 3-5 years, including rebuilding homes, infrastructure, and compensating affected individuals. Egypt, Qatar, and the UN will oversee this process. 12. Freedom of Movement and Trade: - Border crossings will open to allow free movement of goods and people. There is always something to do. There are hungry people to feed, naked people to clothe, sick people to comfort and make well. And while I don't expect you to save the world I do think it's not asking too much for you to love those with whom you sleep, share the happiness of those whom you call friend, engage those among you who are visionary and remove from your life those who offer you depression, despair and disrespect.

We now live in a tent after the war destroyed our home, enduring bitter cold and relentless pain. I lost two of my children in this war: Bisan, who passed away just 24 hours after her birth, and my second child, whom I miscarried in my eighth month due to overwhelming fear and terror. Now, I struggle every day to protect my children from the piercing cold that seeps through the thin walls of our fragile tent, terrified of losing them just as I lost Bisan. Please, donate whatever you can to help us buy blankets to shield my children from this unforgiving cold and ease our suffering. Hi! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. @eladn.bsky.social addresses your point in the piece. When we haven’t seen the process serve us, change our lives for the better, we lose hope in the process. This piece gets into that in a substantive way.
all minority groups moved rightward or voted in larger numbers for Republicans. What actually happened was that: 1. Trump made marginal but significant improvements on his votes in 2020. 2. But relative to that, Democrats did far worse in terms of turnout relative to 2020. 3. The most significant shift was people who had voted against Donald Trump as opposed to for Biden in 2020. This group of voters simply. didn't show up to vote. This deserves the most examination because it explains a lack of turnout that is even deeper than lack of turnout for Democrats. In other words, the story is less a rightward shift than an anti-Trump collapse. And, more importantly, that many people have generally exited the political process all together. We tend not to focus on people who don't vote in normal elections. But this isn't a normal election. Existential Dread We tend to forget the COVID lockdown era. The time when politicians briefly agreed that people needed to stay home, despite the cost to the economy. Aware that enough emergencies would overwhelm the hospitals and our healthcare system
