Columnist with The Philadelphia Inquirer (aka jawnalist) covering what makes Philly weird, wild and wonderfully unique. I fight for Philly's honor against its haters.
Philly is both beautiful and brutal and I love it here.

I passed what may be the quietest and one of the most lovely Philly protests ever in Chinatown on my way to meet a friend for lunch today. It was organized by the New Sancutary Movement and Catholic Church groups.

I think Sesame Place's marketing team should really consider that there's more than one definition of "Furry" these days.

I’m about to step inside the first Netflix House experience at King of Prussia Mall. Let me know if you have any questions!

Oh hell yes.

I hope Philadelphia City Council considers "Everybody is pissing me the f--- off" off days as part of this proposal. Every woman should get at least 5 a year.

Take a bow, Boscov’s, for this outfit that marries rural (camoflauge) and urban (matching sweatsuit) Pennsylvania fashion.

Billing this as “Rustic Romance” is also a choice. A choice that may lead to some breakups Christmas morning.

I had clams in white wine sauce in a dang bread bowl last night at Ariano in Media.

I let my friend have one. I’m not shellfish.

Heading into today with this Philly nail shop energy. 💃🏻

Where's the journos?

There are four Philadelphia Inquirer staffers in this photo, the rest are sculptures.

I love this place so stinkin' much.

It’s been a while since I wrote a story, hated it, threw it away & started all over again, but I did so last week.

Writing about what you love is difficult, but important, especially when you want to share it.

I can’t wait to tell you about one of my favorites places in the world tomorrow.

Two older kids came to our door trick-or-treating Friday night in business casual wear with name tags.

My husband: "What are you, upper management?"

They were characters from Dexter, equally as terrifying.

Also pretty happy with the way our pumpkin, Poindexter (no relation), turned out.

“Why are you wearing that stupid bunny suit?”

"Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?”

Happy Halloween, my bunnies!

Tomorrow is pumpkin-carving night and I'm trying to figure out how to top last year's pumpkin, whom we named Stewart.

Also watched "K-Pop Demon Hunters" so we recognize who trick-or-treaters are dressed up as and I am surprised to say I did not hate it. Not sure if that makes me creepy or cool.

Can’t wait to tell you about the scene at the opening of the new Philly Phlush public bathroom at Clark Park this morning. The Friends of Clark Park raffled off the first flush and it was epic.

West Philly, best Philly.

Three Potato Four in Media is doing the Monster Mash this spooky season.

Thanks to Philly Music Fest for bringing one of Philly’s greatest bands to one of the Philly area’s greatest venues and for supporting independent venues and nonprofit music programs, which are so important to our city and region. 2/2

Dr. Dog dished out the good medicine at Ardmore Music Hall last night. Hearing “Be the Void” in a space that size was particularly incredible, but so was hearing “Here Comes the Hotstepper.” It was just one hell of a night all the way around. 1/2

Also, this should be the plot of Ingelsby’s next show.

A Delco tattoo artist with a cobweb tat on his head won the Scrapple Sculpting contest at Reading Terminal Market in Philly with his sculpture of the Eagles Tush Push. The contest was judged by Art Museum ceo Sasha Suda.

Philly remains undefeated, even if we were defeated on the field last night.

It’s a tough day, Philly, but shout out to whoever did this. At first I thought it was a PennDOT f up but someone was just really amazing at elongating that apostrophe.

Navy paratroopers are parachuting outside of our office today on Independence Mall as part of the Navy/Marine 250th celebrations!

Now we know why the Rocky statue remains atop the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which is now calling itself the Philadelphia Art Museum or "PhAM."

I have THOUGHTS but I also have a deadline to meet on another story (😭) so I'd love to hear yours. 1/2

All of Philly today:

Toured the Battleship New Jersey for the first time yesterday. As always, I kept Philadelphia squarely in my sights.
