Cover art for the short story collection “Wer stiehlt schon Unterschenkel?” by East German author Gert Prokop, first published in 1977. At the surface, this is a fun and exciting collection of futuristic detective stories, which is probably why my parents handed it to me. But underneath is a thinly veiled criticism of the East German government and society - the setting is a totalitarian regime that isolated itself from the rest of the world, full of corrupt officials, secret police surveillance and media propaganda. As a German expat currently living in the us, these themes feel unfortunately current.

Why I'm looking forward to it: Sci Fi horror by Mira Grant (aka Seanan McGuire) never disappoints, and this book has a very interesting premise. Book cover for "Flight of the Fallen - Magebike Courier, Book 2" by Hana Lee. It depicts bikers on a dirt road surrounded by desert, with a city under a shimmering globe in the background. Why I'm looking forward to it: I liked "Road to Ruin" a lot - fascinating worldbuilding, an amazing main character, and interesting plot. I'm looking forward to the sequel. Why I'm looking forward to it: I bought "Ocean's Godori" on a whim last year, and it turned out to be one of my favorite books that year. I can't wait for the sequel. Why I'm looking forward to it: Far-future, sense-of-wonder space opera is my favorite subgenre, and I loved the previous White Space novels. Have been waiting a long time for this sequel, glad it is finally coming out.
