#abstractart
Simplify five minute abstract sketch on a square canvas. The base is a hazy wash of cobalt blue on a light background. The center of the canvas is a similarly hazy roughly painted yellow circle that stretches to the edges of the frame and goes over on three of the four sides. Overlapping the more blue/violet-tinged background, the yellow is dulled somewhat. Painted across the yellow circle and overlapping one another slightly are four other shapes: at the top left, a rough pink circle; and then descending diagonally downward and to the right across the frame, three successive overlapping diagonal paint strokes. Touching the pink circle is a large burnt-orange diagonal stroke, then diagonally below this a smaller muted violet diagonal stroke, and finally overlapping with that, a small lime green diagonal stroke.

Other paint strokes simulate strips of scotch tape aligned in a messy frame shape around the skeleton’s head, and other additions further the illusion that we are looking at an image of a skeleton in a corridor that has been variously marked up and doctored. Most obviously there is the illusion of a red push-pin at the top center and a simple smiley image of two dot eyes and a curved mouth drawn over the skeleton in splotchy neon mint green ink. Also various barely-discernible words and numbers are scribbled in different colors and on different areas of the image, and another maroon colored frame hangs behind the skeleton, diamond shaped, defining the receding corridor behind it. There is a splatter of something coffee-colored at the upper left corner.

full vertical screenshot zoomed in on a patch of detail from a recent abstract expressionist painting. The predominant colors are shades of green from light yellow-green to deep emerald, displaying an almost burnished character in the way they are blended together and raised to textures with bold, energetic horizontal strokes and scratches of pallet knife on paper. A portrait-oriented surreal landscape, evoking an image of the American flag hung lengthwise with the “stars” portion top-right. Unlike a perfect square with 50 evenly-placed white stars, that bit stabs into the frame at an angle, like half of a long, blue diamond (the rest out of frame). The inside of the half-diamond evokes a room split diagonally down the center, as if the right is the “floor” & the left a “wall.” On the floor, 25 identical white stars stand in 4 rows, filling the narrowing visible space: 9, then 8, 6, & 2. The “wall” portion is covered by a silver-framed mirror,with another 25 stars. Though these would seem to reflect the floor, the rows don’t match. Also reflected—“behind” the rows and therefore out of view on the floor—giant stacks of coins and dollar bills. This area hovers surreally above the landscape below, integral yet disconnected, separated from the rest by a thin blue line. The rest of the canvas is dominated & defined by 7 thick, warped metallic “bars” in the foreground—vertical like the flag’s stripes—& by the bits of surreal landscape peeking out from behind them. The bottom half of that landscape is thick with a hillside full of red & blue, near-identical abstract humans—separated by color to form 6 “stripes” of the implied flag, alternating with the 7 silver bars. Left to right, the human stripes are: red, blue, red, blue, red, blue. Above this mass of colorful humanity behind bars, the horizon line curves away, revealing four structures out past the people under a sickly cyan sky streaked with red. Left to right, the structures are: a large blue featureless cube, concertina wire running across its top; two brick-colored factories or power plants, a smokestack atop each corner spewing dark fog, & finally a golden pyramid with a golden cross at its apex. In the left foreground, a camera lens attached to one of the bars by telescoping arms juts forward, focusing its large circular lens directly on the viewer (or artist).
