Oh, awesome! Glad i could help you! I did a bit of sleuthing this morning with my librarian-skills 😂 There was someone on Reddit looking for the same book and they mentioned the scratch and sniff part, so i figured that might be it 😅

Was ist, by chance, "Magic Costumes" by Jamie Lehrer? Was published in 1996 and seems to fit most of your criteria 🤔 It's about two kids who find magic costumes in their attic and go on a quest to save a fairy queen from an evil wizard. One page apparently hast a scratch and sniff bit!
