All of time, all of space, anyone could be The Doctor, and anyone can watch the show. Sorry mid-40s white man, this week the spotlight is on somebody else, but that doesn't mean that you can't enjoy it.

In 2023 it'll continue to branch out, covering more topics, more people, touching more lives. It blows my mind that some people out there will read this thread like it's a horror story. It's the reason why Doctor Who is the best show ever.

And from there we're now in an era: one of non-binary representation, trans representation, sexuality, identity. No longer is the show bound to slight political criticism. Can you imagine penning any of these topics into a script in the 60s? You'd never be allowed to write again.

From there to the present day we visit Rosa Parks and MLK, Time Lords can change race and gender, The Master is a woman, characters who aren't straight start to pop up. More and more people get to point excitedly at the screen and go "hey they're like me!"

As we glide through the 2000s, it's hard to keep up. The Prime Minister is killed and the cabinet replaced by aliens in skin suits, we meet a 51st century pansexual, and the corporate media controls humanity. Oh sorry, that's just in 2005.

After being off-air for 16 years, Doctor Who returns in 2005. After 8 incarnations of well-spoken upper class men playing the role, it's some northerner from Salford. 42 years, and The Doctor finally sounds like a bloke from down the road.

Does it need mentioning? Episode 2, still 1963. The Daleks: machines only capable of hate who wish to destroy anything non-Dalek. Overt parallel to Nazis and the extermination of anything unlike themselves.
