If you do it, I hope that having you and Max there helps your mom grieve and is a softer landing for your move back to Canada. Wishing good things for you.

Oooo, Portland! You are lucky! I have been, but would love explore more someday and eat my way through it.
Boo to someone breaking into your car though.

Obviously those aren’t Nanaimo bars, but those looked like Chinese pan fried radish cakes. I was confused on several levels until I read.

Richmond BC is pretty amazing for Chinese. All the food courts in Richmond are pretty much indoor hawker markets now. So much good food here. Plus fusion-y stuff like a buttery flaky croissant filled with black sesame mochi or salted egg custard.

I used to go to Sabra’s to buy challah for French toast before brioche became a thing everywhere. I was just checking the website to remind myself and saw they now have strawberry sufganiyot. Can’t vouch for the Chinese though.

I’ll see your star anise and raise you a hunk of raw ginger and a few sichuan peppercorns.

My teen daughter recently introduced me to her “canned tuna on nachos”. Believe it or not, it’s really good and makes sense. Come to think of it, mango salsa, fresh coriander and tuna nachos might be a thing this weekend.

I remember starting Stand By Me while all three kids were in the room on their devices. I made sure to turn the volume up just enough. Slowly, each one became engrossed. That is a lonely movie success story for me, but still a huge win that I cling to.

I had to sit through The Emoji Movie. The next test is if you are willing to buy the movie so you can watch it together at home……over and over and over again.

They’re a recent discovery for me as well. I love how they go from indie to almost yacht rock. I get Don Henley Glenn Frye vibes sometimes. It’s wonderful.

Have you tried tamari and melted butter with furikake? I love popcorn so much. I used to make it at home and take six freezer size ziploc filled bags with me to work so I could snack.

I love kohlrabi. I grew up eating it in stir fries my mom would make. Same with slices of lotus root. So starchy and crunchy. Every bite is rewarding. I have a hard love for celeriac in my potato gratin as well. My gosh they are such a pain to peel though.

Oooo! Did not know green garlic was a thing, but super excited having discovered garlic scapes 10 years ago. Yay for new food! Thank you for sharing!

Carney did the Hip Flip with Nardwuar and PP refused. That says it all.

Samesies. And I have multiple furkids to share the load. This made me chuckle despite cutting a bit close for the bone.
