Congress has been surrendering their power to the Executive since at least the 1980s when the religious right began threatening to primary any candidate who compromised on any of their issues. That Congress would become impotent in the face of authoritarianism was obvious to anyone paying attention.

Durbin really disgusts me. His own constituents are putting themselves in danger every day standing up to ICE to protect the most vulnerable. This is how he repays their bravery. What a disgrace.
