Wonderful illustration! And what a coincidence. I just saw this beautiful carpenter bee in a Japanese garden I visited at the weekend. This one was dead unfortunately, but I spotted some buzzing around, one chewing on a bamboo fence. It's a Taiwanese bamboo carpenter bee. Beautiful wings.

I saw the most beautiful moth just sitting at the edge of the street today. I'll try to identify it tomorrow.

I went into the mountains with my friends on Sunday. I'll post some pictures over this week. The first is the bark of one of several lovely crepe-myrtle or sarusuberi trees we saw. I love the mottled pattern. The bark flakes off in bits that look like jigsaw pieces.
