New housing data shows sales are slumping ... except for homes costing $10M or more which are "skyrocketing".

Imagine what will happen to Trump's stock when the Epstein Files are released ... or volume 2 (Mar-a-Lago documents case) of Smith's investigation are released. Oh, that's right the DOJ and Judge Loose Cannon are making sure neither of those ever occur.

Saw a ICE/CBP survey taken in 2024 and same taken in 2025. Made quite clear many of the agents themselves don't like what they're being asked to do, nor do they feel comfortable reporting illegal acts. cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thu...

Regarding the importance of the narrative and not just the facts in combatting mis- and disinformation, is there a better narrative for Minnesota than Springsteen's "The Streets of Minneapolis". I feel like it's 1970, Crosby Stills Nash and Young and "Ohio" all over again.

Believe I saw that there were offers of $50 and free tickets to attend Melania: The Documentary. Might be a good way to pocket $50 ($100 take your wife?) and have a nice 2hour nap. Also, the one liners about attendance at the movie and the reviews are alone worth it having been made. LOL.

Wouldn't be surprising. It's not a large jump from the basis of SCOTUS ruling on Roe to its ruling on Obergefell. Frankly, I'm not even sure it's that large of a jump to its ruling in Loving.

Nice irony that Noel Reports post under this one is about the death of a woman in Kryvyi Rih after a drone strike.

How did Iran reconstitute their 'totally obliterated' nuclear program so quickly? 🤔
January 29, 2026 at 6:32 PM
Also, have you heard Springsteen's "The Streets of Minneapolis"? If so, what did you think of it? Really reminded me of the vibe of CSN&Y "Ohio".

Edsall's op-eds are often very long and contain opinions or emails from a large number of respondents to specific questions. Reading + thinking time ≠ 60 seconds!

Of course, we now consider as positive that the administration does something that should be SOP. Such is the world we live in.
January 28, 2026 at 8:43 PM
That does not compute.
January 28, 2026 at 5:17 PM
As I recall, there were about 5x as many federal agents in Minneapolis as there were Minneapolis policemen and women. But Vance wants the MPD to not do their day job so that they can help Feds harass law abiding MN citizens. Yeah, no.

We have to learn not to take Trump at his word when he posts about conversations or trade deals, etc. with others. How many times has he tried to control narrative by getting his message out first, only to be contradicted by other party (parties) involved? Lucy keeps pulling the football away!

That president being Trump, yes, yes, I can absolutely imagine that he would say this.

Could the parents of Mr. Pretti bring some kind of civil suit against Miller and Noem for misrepresenting their son?
January 27, 2026 at 10:12 PM
Need to study a bit more history, Prof. Starbird.😉 This tactic is kind of SOP in authoritarian states. It protects leader by creating myth of, "if only Stalin/Mao/Hitler knew'. Purges of security officials in SU like Yagoda and Ezhov, Night of the Long Knives in NG. Blame others, protect yourself.

They use 'worst of the worst' like they do 'fraud'. Trump Admin know if they actually stated what they're doing - looking for any reason to deport individuals of color - the policy would be and is wildly unpopular.
January 26, 2026 at 8:32 PM
I'm watching Noem (criticized in the Free Press) and Bovino (replaced by Homan as admin's face in Minneapolis) being thrown under the bus. Are we entering the 'if only Stalin/Hitler/Mao knew' phase of the political clean up? Further lip stick for pig: WH to investigate, compliments for Walz.
January 26, 2026 at 7:37 PM
Trump's approval rating is still in the upper 30s. How do you get his supporters as well as those who just aren't involved to do participate in a general strike? It may to work to an extent in areas that are already anti-Trump, but such an action would not be a replay of the Kapp Putsch.
January 26, 2026 at 7:02 PM
Hopefully people will not be fooled by today's rope a dope by Trump. Suddenly the WH is investigating the second shooting. All at once he's trying to make nice with Walz. Reminds me of the 'nice JD' transformation for debate with Walz. People, Trump is who we thought he was. Don't forget it!

My usual question when told the US is fascist I ask about the abundant anti-government media sources and what would have happened to these media outlets in Nazi Germany? Pretty much ends the discussion. Does make me worry for voices such as yours, David Frum, Anne Applebaum, The Bulwark crowd, etc.
January 25, 2026 at 5:28 PM
They can't help reporting what the administration is saying; however, the media do control the questions they act, and the facts they report about what actually happened. Kudos to WSJ and NYT on their break down of the videos and what they reveal.
January 25, 2026 at 2:09 PM
I'd go beyond loose. I'd say they are being encouraged to use violence against the protesters and observers they encounter as well as the subjects they detains in their immigration sweeps (which again have very 'loose' rules, like if the person has the wrong colored skin).
January 25, 2026 at 2:05 PM
At this point, one must always assume the government is lying in such situations. I fear we are at this moment in history, ICE/CBP murdered an American citizen. We know they did it, there will be no consequences and we know they will do it again.
