Fleabag’s asides and fourth wall breaks. Had a purpose and was executed flawlessly, which subsequently made Netflix think they can make every “quirky” female protagonist more interesting if they mooned at the camera a lot.

so many mentions of the Himbo discourse, but no one else is remembering the *original* hit tweet from the same poster: "Kylo Ren is Female-Coded, and that's why he is disliked by the fandom". How quickly history fades.

which relates to what i mean by the 'why does Watson stay with Holmes' question: this version of Wilson is weird enough to be drawn to House's neuroses and codependency, but he hides it better

House is def an acquired taste & while I enjoy it, i wouldn't *recommend* it, lol. the Wilson & House friendship is fascinating like a plane crash. Wilson is chronically and compulsively a bleeding-heart people-pleaser on the surface, but with a deeply-buried selfishness that comes out around House

House is mentioned upthread, but i've been watching it recently and I think House does similarly interesting things with Wilson but in the opposite direction

imo, BBC-lock's Watson is the least interesting interpretation of the character because his undying loyalty isn't really *earned* it's just...one-sided devotion that only exists because the writers needed someone to fawn over Holmes. Liu Watson's loyalty is reciprocal and it pays off emotionally!

I also loved that it explored what that most Holmes adaptations chose to ignore: why does Watson *stay* with someone as abrasive Holmes? And Elementary giving Watson professional and personal fulfillment from their working relationship which gives the character so much more depth
