The legendary Anthony Bourdain, born on this day in 1956, visited Glasgow 10 years ago for an episode of Parts Unknown.

We sampled the Bourdain Special at Glasgow's University Cafe - battered fish, battered haggis, chips and melted cheese with curry sauce, washed down with a can of Irn-Bru.

For centuries, a “gossip” was a woman who attended another woman's delivery. The word was a corruption of “god-sib” or “god-sibling,” meaning “sister in the Lord.” The gossips offered support to mother and midwife. Only later did the term take on a derogatory meaning.

Take a trip through Glasgow at Christmas time, 1968. There was a time when the city's festive illuminations were renowned across the UK.

Here we see Sauchiehall St, Renfield St, and George Square.
