And if he's saying they want to build a terawatt of compute facility PER YEAR using satellites, then they are going to run into Kessler Syndrome pretty quick.

"Terawatt per year" doesn't make sense. Watts measure the rate of energy transfer - the "per year/hour/second/whatever" is already part of the unit.

This probably sounds like I'm splitting hairs here, but I think he doesn't know what a terawatt actually is.

I don't see how having a Minister for Men would change any of that.

OK... I watched it and I liked it, but I don't think I really understood it properly. Of course, I have a Flan O'Brien/Myles n'gCapalín/Brian Nolan quote on my profile and I barely understood 50% of that, so actually it's right up my alley.

I don't think she is going to be able to continue operating the way she did without Trump's protection.

Dude. This is one of those plays I keep meaning to watch, but never get round to actually doing it.

Thanks for reminding me. I will have watched it before the weekend is over.

Basically he does stupid shit that on average should result in ruin, but the nature of probability is that it is entirely possible to flip 100 heads in a row, and then on flip 101 you still have a 50/50 of calling it right, only now everyone is willing to put down money backing up your bet.
November 14, 2025 at 11:17 PM
I'm cautiously optimistic about this one.

Could be whale juice, could be a decomposing bear. Who knows really?

Jesus Christ!

(For anyone not familiar, Divis Tower is a residential block that used to have an Army observation post on the top floor - the Army were only able to access it by helicopter.)

At the height of the Troubles in Northern Ireland, it was a big deal when the soldiers on patrol switched from wearing berets to helmets and back again. This was at a time when there were actual hostile snipers in operation, not just guys throwing sandwiches.

That preamble about starting your videos with a convoluted disclaimer about string theory really sets the email up for success.

It's a great example of why you need to actually offer something to your electorate and not just rely on them picking you because the other guys are so bad.
November 12, 2025 at 3:14 PM
That's not knocking it btw. I fully accept I probably just didn't get it.

I'm just pointing out the bits that would appeal to Elon. There's more to the book than that, of course.
November 11, 2025 at 9:36 PM
TBH, I've only read Use of Weapons and I just wasn't into it.

It *did* seem to have a lot of stuff Elon would dig. A post-scarcity civilization with no laws, run by super-intelligent space ships with edge-lord names.
November 11, 2025 at 9:33 PM
I read somewhere that it's from the Ian M Banks Culture books. Slap drones.

Has Elon read the book? Who knows.

Well no one you know looks up to them and many people I know do look up to them. Also I see so many people trying to get onto the career ladder to work with them.

I guess we'll have to see how that works out long-term.
November 9, 2025 at 1:13 AM
I don't know. Many of the real talented nerds I've worked with just aligned themselves with what the boss wanted. At least the ones who got promoted did that.
November 9, 2025 at 1:10 AM
LOL, no. I definitely remember many non-billionaire tech-dudes cheering on the USAID stuff and I am still seeing many of them cheer on the ever increasing levels of bullshit.

Joey Swoll made his name convincing young men who already don't go to the gym to never go to the gym because aggressive women will film them and put it on tiktok.

TBH, I would say earlier, but I couldn't remember dates. 1906 was HMS Dreadnought, but the pissing competition started a good bit earlier.
November 7, 2025 at 10:50 PM
So far the only person I saw defending her was a linkedin lunatic who earlier on in the day was posting about Elon Musk's revolutionary new Doge program - that thing which happened many months ago and which we already saw implode in complete failure. Not the best or brightest.
November 7, 2025 at 10:48 PM
I think it has more of a 1906 vibe.
November 7, 2025 at 10:41 PM
All that infrastructure is just going to be sold to rent-seeking corporations once the public are done paying for it, so might as well spend the money now on some bullshit no one will ever use.
