And yes, xenia is a core concept in MANY older cultures. The idea was that A: you don't know who's a god, angel, or whatever, they could be testing you, and B: even the shabbiest travelers bring news in a world that relied on travelers to bring news.

Oh my stars I looked less like a doofus than this when I thought purple sweatpants went with a green scrub top.

(I like Legends Luke far more, and this is a pretty common sentiment among those of us who criticize the prequel-era Jedi stance on attachments.)

It's not so much that there was anybody living left to tell him to detach from her, but that he absorbed the texts that he found decreeing that detachment was one of the goals.
If he worked to change the Jedi as a whole, he wouldn't have told Grogu he had to choose between training and Mando.

Though that seems to be more a byproduct of the fact that by the time he realized they were siblings, both of his mentors had died and he was thought to be the only Jedi left. According to the newer canon, even then, he grew more distant from her than he naturally would have.

Agreed. Heck, even Kanan Jarrus is a better mentor than most Jedi because he doesn't deny his chosen family.

Emotion is not the enemy or the obstacle, it is the LESSON.

The biggest reason I call myself a Jellicle- or "stray or street"- Jedi. More in touch with the common life than the distant, elitist mindset.

This is where a lot of fictional mentors- like Yoda or Guru Pathik- don't manage to teach their pupils well. Those who detached themselves too completely don't understand the nature of being close to people yet still learning how to handle grief wisely.

We may not be "ready" for the loss, it may still incapacitate us for a while, but we've made an effort to not let that grief DEFINE us and control the rest of our life. To not let it turn us vengeful or controlling.

It's not that we don't grieve, it's that we have grieved as a lasting process instead of letting it hit us full-force when the loss happens. We have, in a way, exercised the emotion of grief so we don't pull the "muscle."

This, to me, is the true essence of "learning to let go of attachments." It's not that you become *detached,* but that you understand that we can't control the outcomes of life. We don't own others, they can walk away from us, and everyone *will* die eventually.
