The Fu talisman face armor features hanzi for spirit [靈] (líng), command [勅令] (how much Daoists would open a talisman), spirit [精] (jīng), speed [速] (sù), and saber-toothed tiger [剑齿虎] (jiànchǐhǔ).
Gui(buddy) takes design inspiration from the Dinofelis and Smilodon (Sabre-toothed Cat), jiāngshī from Chinese folklore, and oni from Japanese folklore.
The onyomi of 鬼 (guǐ) means ghost, while the kunyomi is oni, hence the oni inspiration.
The spots along its body resemble eyes.
