Practicing our harmonies for our show at Gasa Gasa in New Orleans this Saturday 5/24. Our last show was the debut live singing debut for both Faith and Pax and they (and John!) sounded lovely together.

Our first calendula blossom of the year, grown from seeds saved in my 2023 garden in Oregon. Now thriving in New Orleans! What a lovely Easter surprise 🌼

Update on Lily the Thai basil - she’s kicking ass! First photo is from January and the second is from yesterday (April)

No one told me that the weather was going to be perfect 7+ months out of the year and that I could grow a basil this big in APRIL. How I love zone 9b! I wish the smell of basil, tomato leaves, and marigolds could be transported through our phone screens

"I’m gonna brush my teeth with gasoline
To get your taste out of my mouth
I’m gonna set your clothes on fire
And then I’ll fumigate my house
You leave a bad, bad aftertaste
But I can return the flavor
It's my turn to give you something to savor

Street to sweet, part 2 - Candied kumquat. I canned most of them for future use but kept a few out to eat dried. Ginger cut into fun shapes to spice things up!

Street to sweet! Urban foraged citron, candied. This fruit is extremely bitter even after being candied! The first pice I had was very intense but now I can’t stop eating them.

This wasn’t the prettiest cake, but it was delicious! Inspired by a family recipe for anise seed cookies. I prepared the anise seeds the same way I would for cookies, and added them to my go to upside down cake recipe. Caramelized kumquats and satsuma zest on top 🍊🧡✨

Urban foraged osmanthus, satsuma, and kumquat upside down cake. Caramelized osmanthus and satsuma top with kumquat and chocolate filling, osmanthus flowers throughout. Was craving a zebra cake yesterday but made this instead. Much more labor intensive than walking to the corner store, but worth it!

New Orleans is thawing and it's finally warm enough in our house to get out of bed. Yesterday I (Charlotte) spent 8 hours recording bodhran and flute parts, today I'm finally finishing some leather belt and strap orders while Faith @bonechinadesigns.bsky.social sculpts porcelain wall art.

I feel like I adopted a new pet, the way I’ll be caring for these salt preserved kumquats for the next several months.
Traditionally made with lemons, preserving citrus this way dates back 800 years, written about in the 12th century by the court physician for the sultan of Egypt, Ibn Jumay.

Citrus in Louisiana hits different. Do you see these lemons?
I still have more kumquats that I know what to do with. I’m trying a salt preserved kumquat recipe, similar how lemons are preserved in salt, with bay leaves, cardamom, and pink peppercorns.
I’ll let you know they are in 2-4 months!

Looking to this basil, named Lily, for inspiration in these uncertain times. Found floating in my bowl at Lily’s Pho, tucked into a napkin, now sprouting roots in nothing but 9th Ward tap water during historic snowfall, in an bottle from a broken dump cap in Dead Horse Bay. #propagation #newgrowth

Our only shows booked so far this year are May 1 and 2nd at Siberia in New Orleans opening for @lowcutconnie.bsky.social

When we opened for them at Treefort they carried a real piano up the stairs before their set. This commitment to the real shit is the kind of energy we're bringing into 2025.

Winter 2022 at our home in Oregon vs. winter 2025 at our new home in Louisiana. I was sad to not harvest quince this season, but I welcome this harvest of winter citrus with open arms. In the same wooden bowl and sweater of years past.

Kumquat harvest before New Orleans is hit by potentially historic winter conditions! I’ve been monitoring this tree for some time now 🍊 While kumquat trees are considered relatively cold hardy, it’s best to harvest before a cold snap to preserve the quality of the fruit.

Hi Bluesky! We left Twitter when the transphobic capitalist pig dweeb took over. We are now trying to pivot away from Instagram and other Zuckerberg products for the same reasons. If you like undefinable but often apocalyptic, generally "western" music with a post-punk vein please give us a follow!
