I follow her too. I don’t know… my feeling is that it’s completely possible for some senators to be genuinely outraged and committed to holding the line while the caucus as a whole is following Schumer’s lead. That’s Ron Filipkowski’s take, anyway. From his Substack today:

The caucus as a whole agreed to this deal, and people who are not running again, or were just elected, have agreed to take the fall as yes votes. Does that mean that the no votes could have somehow jammed the works? I’m not sure, but I do know that replacing Schumer with a vertebrate is overdue.

We do understand how the caucus works, you know. I can’t praise you for holding firm as an individual because I know perfectly well that you are part of the collective agreement to cave.

I come from a service family and was raised to think such conflations are beyond disrespectful to actual soldiers — nothing at stake in football but money and vanity

Ah I see. Another instance of the old vile pretense that war is a game (it’s not) and athletes are soldiers (they aren’t, & they are better paid than the real ones).

That would make it sound like a military oath — he is, however regrettably, the Commander in Chief — but that still doesn’t make a damn bit of sense
