As always it's good to follow this rule of thumb: anyone telling you the western empire fell for *one* reason is a hack with an agenda, and should be mistrusted.

For what it's worth, Helmet guy is at least partially correct here. Outsourcing their military *was* a contributing factor in the fall of the western empire, although there's like a dozen other factors all coming together.
