Let's prioritize local residents and environment when we talk about cruise tourism in Victoria, Canada. www.fair-sailing.com
Victoria's cruise season grinds to a close tonight with the arrival of NCL Encore, here for its 26th fine-dodging pit stop & garbage run. Typically arriving after 7pm and staying for less than 5 hours, it contributed little to Victoria's economy but saved NCL about US$103 Million in fines avoided.

Tonight, for the 27th & final time this season, Victoria hosts NCL Bliss, here for a pit stop. In 2025, these stops, averaging less that 5 hours, saved Norwegian Cruise Lines over USD $114 million in fines avoided. Ship likely unloaded a week's worth of Alaska-route garbage. That's undisclosed.

Nothing says Thanksgiving in Victoria like a couple of cruise ships here to enjoy what's shaping up to be a wet weekend. Today we host Noordam, and tonight it's the 26th straight Saturday night visit from Encore. Between them they average a D grade for their environmental practices.
October 11, 2025 at 3:00 PM
Tonight Victoria hosts Bliss and Spirit. Both are pitstops to comply with an American law. So, not much in it for us. Bliss is on the SEA-Alaska run. Spirit is on a SEA-Hawaii cruise. Foreign stop required. Because nothing says Hawaiian cruise like a 6 hour stop in Canada in October.

Today Victoria hosts Ruby Princess, the last mid-week ship of the season. Just a couple more weekends and we're done. Fun Fact: Princess Cruises is a convicted felon and 2-time probation violator for intentional ocean pollution.
October 7, 2025 at 10:37 PM
Today Victoria hosts Coral Princess, and tonight for the 25th straight week, Encore, making a late regulatory stop that this year will save its cruise line USD $103 million in fines avoided. Reminder: 82% of cruise ship calls to Victoria in 2025 are to avoid US fines.
October 4, 2025 at 6:52 PM
In tonight's Victoria Cruise Ship Calls After Dark, we host Bliss and Eurodam for their weekly required regulatory calls. They save $millions, passengers see, well, not much. Locals get the pollution and noise. But as long as the cruise industry is happy, Victoria doesn't care. #CruiseImpacts
October 3, 2025 at 5:42 PM
Today Victoria hosts Anthem of the Seas for 11 hours of air & ocean pollution. This cruise line has been graded D- for environmental practices.
October 2, 2025 at 5:43 PM
Hey, Victoria, it's a cruise-ship-free day today. Weather is iffy but the air is clear, so enjoy. Thurs-Sun is the last weekend with daily ships, then a ship now and then until it's over on Oct 18. Final ship? Norwegian from Alaska, of course. CEO credited climate change for extending cruise season.
October 1, 2025 at 5:10 PM
Today Victoria hosts Norwegian Joy. The Alaska season winds down so no more 3-ship days scheduled. But we typically get an unscheduled call, or an unexpected ship in wet dock. Most remaining calls arrive after dark, so be on the lookout for confused pax wondering what there is to see.
September 30, 2025 at 7:22 PM
The former CEO of Norwegian Cruise Lines credited climate change as a probable factor in extending the very-profitable Alaska cruise season. Cruise lines privatize the profits while we - and the environment - pay the price.
September 27, 2025 at 7:43 PM
Happy Friday, Victoria! Here come Bliss and Eurodam, arriving tonight for their weekly regulatory stop and garbage-drop. They rate an average grade of D for environmental practices, so enjoy the fresh air now, because tonight it's back to Friday Pollution Palooza.
September 26, 2025 at 11:07 PM
It's a 3-ship day in Victoria, for a change: Anthem, Spirit, Quest. From today-Sunday, on this first weekend of fall, we'll have 11 cruise ships. 8 of them are regulatory stops on the Alaska run. Because nothing says fall like a cold, rainy Alaska cruise so cruise lines can squeeze out more money.
September 25, 2025 at 8:45 PM
Today Victoria hosts Caribbean Princess, wandering on by from Alaska on the way to the actual Caribbean for the winter cruise season. Here's your reminder than Princess Cruises is a convicted felony ocean polluter.
September 22, 2025 at 10:12 PM
Hey, Victoria, it's a four-ship day! Between about 645am-midnight, Edge, Jade, Discovery, and Encore will come and go. It's the time of year when Alaska is a rainy, windy, cold destination but cruise lines just keep going to squeeze out that last dollar before heading south for the winter.

Friday Night Cruise Pollution Pollution in Victoria is here again! Tonight between about 8pm - midnight, Royal, Eurodam, Bliss will account for 47% of Victoria's GHGs-per-hour. Here's what 3 ships looks like. If you're near the waterfront tonight, wave Victoria's Climate Leadership Plan goodbye.
September 19, 2025 at 6:07 PM
Today Victoria hosts Joy and Anthem for a combined climate-goals-busting 30 hours. As we watch the city's Climate Leadership goal of reduced GHGs fade into oblivion, remember that these ships average a grade of 'D' for environmental practices.

It's been a lovely day around Victoria's waterfront, because Carnival Spirit doesn't arrive until this evening, and that's only to dodge US$2.1 million in fines with a regulatory and garbage-dump call. We're not a destination to them, just a pit stop. Yet we get the pollution anyway.
September 16, 2025 at 12:24 AM
It's another 3-ship day in Victoria: Discovery, Summit, Encore. Tonight between about 7pm - midnight these ships will account for 47% of Victoria's GHGs-per-hour. Victoria has a Climate Plan that pledges 50% cuts to GHGs by 2030 compared to 2007. Cruise ships 2007: 163. 2025: 320. How's that work?
September 13, 2025 at 8:15 PM
Eurodam, you horns-blasting-at-midnite idiot. The deal is: in return for you polluting Victoria's air, poisoning our ocean, dumping your garbage, only here for a regulatory stop to dodge fines but too late to be good for local business, you leave without waking us all up. You're a winner, loser.
September 13, 2025 at 5:33 PM
Victoria's climate goals must be performance art, because tonight we host the second of 3-in-a-row three-ship-nights. Tonight between about 8pm - midnight, Royal, Eurodam, Bliss will account for 47% of Victoria's GHGs-per-hour. And we've got some 4-ship-days coming up. #ClimateChange
September 12, 2025 at 9:14 PM
It's Thursday-Three-Ships Pollution Fest in Victoria, courtesy of Grand Princess, Anthem, Edge. Tonight between about 5pm - 10pm, these ships will account for 47% of Victoria's GHGs-per-hour. Canada is warming 2X as fast as the global average, and we're importing the primary drivers of that change.
September 11, 2025 at 6:48 PM
Tonight Victoria hosts Luminosa, here for its 19th weekly 8pm pitstop. By end of season Carnival will have dodged US$45 million in fines. And they drop off garbage to improve their turn time in Seattle. But sure, great for Victoria. As Johnny Rotten said, "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?"
September 10, 2025 at 5:48 PM
Hey, Victoria, no cruise-free Tuesday for you! Instead, we get 16 hours of air/ocean pollution, traffic, and noise courtesy of Norwegian Joy. However, NCL has one of the highest environmental practice grades of cruise lines visiting Victoria this season: D+
September 9, 2025 at 8:41 PM
Friday Cruise Pollution Palooza again as Victoria hosts Eurodam, Bliss, Royal. Between about 8p-midnite these 3 ships will account for 47% of Victoria's GHGs-per-hour. It's a cooler-than-expected day, hazy with smoke from wildfires accelerated by climate change, accelerated by increased GHGs.
