A Very Potter Musical feels like the one piece of my love for Harry Potter that Rowlimg can't touch - it feels separate and self-conscious without losing the joy of magical school, lol. It's great because they love it AND think it's cringe all at once - the true spirit of parody!

My fave is when people try to artificially force English into being Latin because Europeans have a crush on the ancient world.

The poet John Dryden is responsible for the whole stupid don't-use-a-preposition-at-the-end-of-a-sentence rule - copied from Latin and makes no sense in English.

It was so awful. I just tried to concentrate on our primary texts, and ignore him when I wasn't actively contradicting him. It made for a long year.

Oh god, I had to teach out of one of his textbooks once.

I spent a full year contradicting whatever he said in class, quit the job at the end of said year, and shot off a ten page single-spaced letter to the administrators about why his books are 1) horrible, 2) unscholarly, and 3) heresy.
