Canadian anime theatre-goer, disabled guy.
...that's not how it ends.

The colonel inherited nothing, the future of neo-Tokyo is left up to the youth. In the manga he's crippled. Kaneda declares at tghe end that Akira lives on.

I think its ending is nationalist but it's more complicated than this guy makes it sound.

Spoilers

I finally got around to reading all of Dr. Slump. It was a nice surprise to see Toriyama ended it with an encouraging message to the reader about what he wanted them to take away from the main character, just like he did with Dragon Ball (Z). It was sweet. 🥹

Funny Dragon Ball illustration I don't think I've seen before

1999 technically, but stands out to me.

Got some cool stuff I've been curious about for a while today. Thanks to @thebeguiling.bsky.social for carrying them in Canada. @sean.zimmerit.moe

Some of the anti-Nazi stuff seems played up in Viz's manga translation too.

Many fans recognize that JoJo is flawed on that regard, even though BT has some anti-racist and progressive aspects as well.

The third part goes more anti-Nazi and directly comparing the series' chief villain to Hitler.

It turns out ~~*~OcCulT nAzI ReSeaRch~*~~ actually had some positive intentions. The world works together in secret before the war to fight an extraterrestrial threat. Much of the story takes place in Italy under Fascism. A cruel, sadistic Nazi character is even said to die honorably in Stalingrad.

The "anti-fascism" of Porco Rosso reminds me of the second part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure ("Battle Tendency").

It has some funny lines against Nazis. But Joseph Joestar only opposes the Nazis when they impact his family and is otherwise indifferent. He even has to work with them at some points.

While everyone is imagining Miyazaki is outraged and furious, or wondering what he is thinking

I am reminded of that time a news reporter ambushed him to ask about Demon Slayer: Mugen Train outselling Spirited Away's box office record

Gainax is one studio that I'd think of having a unique aesthetic.
But a lot of that is just based on Yoshiyuki Sadamoto's character designs. And he did work outside of Gainax.
For later designs his style is a lot more in line with current trends. Would anyone say Wolf Children is "Gainax style?"

I did the unthinkable. Took a couple of hours of transit to see the Gundam Gquuuuuux premier. I ended up spending over 10 hours out for it.

My city's theater was pretty good at getting GKIDS releases but has been slipping lately. Years ago I was willing to go to other towns but then I got disabled.

Found out the girl on this Helen Love album cover I have is Noriko from Irresponsible Captain Tylor. The image was used as a cover for Newtype magazine.

I was always curious and now know thanks to some Reddit posts and reverse image searching.

YES! Got it today and it was a blast! I don't have a UHD / 4K player but the normal blu-ray disc did work on my player, and it had English subtitltes. #Macross #DYRL
For so long I've only seen clips of it, as far back as when Cristina Vee had a clip of her singing the song for the fandub. 15 years?

Making things more shocking, the other side of the poster was of Pastel Yumi, a Pierrot magical girl show whose intended target audience would be young girls (though those shows ended up attracting different audiences as well, I doubt there was no difference here). Thankfully it's not as awkward.

Official anime media can surprise me sometimes with how pervy it can be. This is apparently is an official Gundam ZZ poster from that was included in a magazine called MyAnime. They never dress or look that sultry in the show. #GundamZZ
