I recently bought this lawn chair because it's beautiful and iconic. It's only temporarily here in my office; I don't dare sit in it because the aluminum frame would scratch up the soft pine floor in a heartbeat. OTOH, Emma can do whatever she wants.

Here's another Degas, at The Met, with a "patron" hidden on the right. Note the difference in girth. Also notice a ballerina on the right listening in on whatever conversation is taking place. I stood in front of this painting for the longest before I saw the patron's silhouette.

I'm having a hard time remembering which particular painter this reminds me of. Maybe Tissot below. Wrong era, of course. But there's something about the crips black and white apparel that reminds me of someone.
