for physical traits, items, brands, etc I like to pull up lists or photos and have the pendulum say yes or no, I find this really streamlines the process instead of trying to understand what my Oc was trying to spell out.

I recommend you always check what is Yes, No, and maybe for your pendulum before you start or if you switch characters to be sure you are getting the correct responses.

Now as for your questions that's completely up to you! I have used this method to redesign a lot of old OC's for example.

I basically treat my characters as if Im creating or working with a spirit. I always greet them, however unlike when I work with deities in this manor, I let myself be a bit less restricted in how I address them.

to start I recommend doing your usual routine when using divination tools, wash your hands, cleanse your tools, ensure you have some sort of protection, etc.

how you summon your character is really up to you; I however summon them verbally by saying their name. (you can even ask them if need be)

I use my laptop, online notes/documents, and of course a pendulum for this method, However you can just as easily use a pendulum mat or piece of paper with letters+ numbers and a note book.

A candle or object related to the character are optional but helpful if you feel the need to use them.

Warning: I would take caution if you are new to spiritual practices, as my partner who I had taught this method to got very fatigued after 3-4 characters.

I can do this method effortlessly because I have been doing divination since I was 14, almost 10 years, please do not push yourself!
