Wordless Storytelling in Subterranean Animism

my favourite thing about touhou games is how well they're able to express themselves purely through play. so i wrote a piece focusing on subterranean animism and how bold a picture of its story it drew in my head, before i actually read any of it! read it here: faearie.neocities.org/posts/2025-2...

do think ink ribbons are one of the coolest things ever at least in theory. making you manage saving against both the difficulty of everything you've done since the last save, and your patience to do it all again. weaponising patience as a skill/resource i think is really really strong

lately been v conscious that the way a game delivers its story/ideas through play is much more important to me than the ideas themselves. like a game with a v simple idea/message that's worked into the play rly well sticks w/ me more than one that's more interesting but feels detached from the play

adhd holes-in-my-brain has progressed from "start six games at once" to "fall completely off all but two and alternate between only them until i feel like i'm gonna explode" it's awesome. dreaming wistfully about all the stuff i wanna do that i know isn't happening till like late november

this morning i saw something else that almost made me reflexively subtweet i think i should stop using that website
(just read something on backloggd and had an annoying thought prompted voice) i mean i don't get hard Backlogs to begin with but i double don't get when someone says they're gonna play a whole series before they've even tried it. like how do you know you're gonna like it in the first place lol
