"To address climate change, economic equity and fairness, and funding the social programs, we must repeal all the special tax breaks the oil and gas sector receives and ensure that they are paying tax rates [equal] with what they are paying globally.” - @erichpica.bsky.social of @foeus.bsky.social

As both a major destination for laundered gold and a central node in global finance, the United States holds powerful tools to disrupt illicit gold networks in the Amazon. Read @jyansura.bsky.social and @isidorohazbun.bsky.social's new report to learn more.

Illegal gold mining in the Amazon basin has exploded in the past decade. On May 14, FACT hosted award-winning journalists Arturo Torres and Joseph Poliszuk for a panel exposing how illegal mining and dirty money drive deforestation, corruption, and human exploitation.

Next week, FACT is co-hosting an official side event at the Fourth UN International Conference on Financing for Development (#FfD4) on ways to stop corruption and dirty money from undermining global development.

International tax policies in the big bill cost more than $130 bn but will (at best) do nothing to spur US investment.
GILTI won't affect domestic investment (deals with foreign profits); FDII, meant to encourage domestic intangibles, can discourage domestic tangible investment.

Today, FACT signed on to a letter opposing the nomination of Billy Long for IRS commissioner. Mr. Long's lack of experience and history of favoring the dismantlement of the IRS are enough to disqualify him from this role. We call on the Senate to reject Mr. Long's confirmation.

@repbeatty.bsky.social is right on the money here: "Gutting the CTA eliminates a critical tool for law enforcement to detect and deter fraud cases that involve anonymous shell companies, effectively making the US a haven for money launderers, traffickers and fraundsters."

Glad to see bipartisan pushback to Treasury's gutting of the landmark Corporate Transparency Act from Sen. @whitehouse.senate.gov + Sen. Grassley

This move has no basis in the statute of the CTA, which clearly requires Treasury to cover domestic entities.

Happening Now: DOJ files for a stay in Smith v. Treasury, the last remaining case keeping Treasury from enforcing the landmark #CorporateTransparencyAct.

Last month, the Supreme Court threw out a nationwide injunction in another CTA case.

Per DOJ: "The same result is warranted here."

Fantastic energy in the room during discussions with 50+ coalition members and allies at last week's FACT Strategy Retreat!

Excited to continue our collective work fighting money laundering, tax dodging, and corruption in 2025.

FACT's @ianpgary.bsky.social will be speaking today at NYSBA's annual meeting on how dirty money corrupts markets and undermines the rule of law.

The #CorporateTransparencyAct and recent #AML reforms for real estate markets are vital tools to fighting back against illicit finance in the U.S.

A harmful House rider would deny funding to FASB
unless they revoke a long-awaited corporate #tax #transparency measure.

Five decades of FASB independence should not be put in jeopardy over an update that has been well received by #investors.
