The Taíno were Haiti’s first inhabitants, and their legacy lives on through language (Kasav), food (cassava bread, maize), art (petroglyphs), spirituality (Vodou influences), and place names (Ayiti). Rural areas like the north and southwest hold the strongest Taíno ancestry and cultural ties •
