“When Russia says they’re ‘deporting’ someone, they’re not deporting them back to Ukraine.”

‘A false semblance of choice’ Putin’s latest passportization deadline dials up the pressure on civilians in Ukraine’s occupied territories — Meduza
Ukrainians living under occupation have long faced pressure to assume Russian citizenship. But in March, Vladimir Putin turned things up a notch. In a decree aimed at boosting the Kremlin’s campaign t...

Kirienko's empire in the presidential administration to grow: As usual, formal structural changes will follow earlier informal power shifts. Kirienko has already dealt with post-Soviet space (especially the occupied territories) and foreign policy, including hybrid interference.

Quite interesting for the Beseda watchers:

"Russia will be represented by Grigory Karasin, a former diplomat who is now chair of the Russian upper house of parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, and by Sergei Beseda, an adviser to the director of the FSB."

Excellent piece by @pociumban.bsky.social and Andras Racz @dgap.org.

Already during the Minsk process, Russia used elections to manipulate conflict resolution. The same sequencing mistakes shouldn't be repeated this time.
🚨 Rushing #elections in #Ukraine risks democracy

Free & fair elections need security & oversight—impossible under war. Calls for a quick vote play into Russian propaganda. Ukraine’s democracy must be strengthened, not sabotaged. Elections should happen after a peace deal.

Hastily Organized Elections in Ukraine Would Undermine Democracy and the Conflict Settlement
Recent reports from both US and Russian media following the Riyadh negotiations suggest that the two powers have agreed on a sequenced settlement for Ukraine: first, a ceasefire; second, elections in ...
