Happy 30th birthday to the Tvm (Trans Val de Marne), a bus line through the suburban Parisian department of Val de Marne.
It was the region's first true BRT (bus rapid transit) line, operating with dedicated rights of way, signal priority and all-door boarding.

If you're a fan of huge clocks, this one's especially well hung: today, Cergy-Saint-Christophe RER station celebrates its 38th birthday. It features Europe's largest clock.

31 August 1914: Jean Jaurès, a major figure of the left, is assassinated at the Bistrot du Croissant in Paris's 2nd arrondissement.

Jaurès was the last major voice trying to stop the inevitable slide into world war.
