I'm so tired of this "illegal immigration" label. Being a refugee is not illegal. You can only be described as that once your request for asylum has been reviewed according to international law and rejected. Britain still has far fewer asylum seekers than similarly large countries in Europe.
From Germany: "The UK wants to abolish the obligation to support asylum seekers that became EU law in 2005. UK had 84,200 asylum applications in 2024. From 2011 – 2020 (before Brexit) the average was 27,500 applications per year. By comparison, in Germany, 250,945 people applied for asylum in 2024."
