on this, the only day of the four day weekend i had all to myself, i accomplished many deeds:
- baked a pumpkin pie
- baked and decorated cookies for a GDT frankenstein watch party tmrw
- cooked guinea hen, green beans & mashed potatoes
- worked out/did all my stretchies
- did 3 loads of laundry

A selfie of my new haircut. It's sort of a wolf mullet shag, with very short layers including pretty short bangs and the layers continuing pretty shaggy down to past my shoulders. My dark brown hair is now very curly. My face is obscured with an emoji and I'm outside standing in front of a brick wall wearing a navy winter coat, black sweater, and orange and black floral shirt underneath.

Tried a new recipe as I get more into eggplant post-Greece trip -- really yummy!
Halved eggplants with a filling of sausage, eggplant, tomato sauce, cheese and breadcrumbs then sprinkled with more cheese, roasted. The plate is floral china and holds five eggplant halves of various sizes, the cheese on top roasted to a beautiful brown. Two eggplant halves plated on another floral porcelain plate with tomato sauce now on top.

At this point, however, disaster struck. A letter published in the St. James Chronicle, ostensibly from Frederick of Prussia, offered Rousseau asylum in Berlin and (see next image) ...every possible assistance in making him as miserably unhappy as he could want to be. Now it was true that Rousseau was prone to a degree of hypochondria, but (as it was once observed) he was also the worst kind of hypochondriac -- namely, the one who is really ill (as Rousseau was, the result of uraemia infecting his kidneys). The depiction of him as an inveterate misanthrope infuriated him. He assumed that Hume was behind it. In fact, it had been written by Horace Walpole, a fluent French speaker and a frequent visitor to Paris. There, he had gotten to know various former friends of Rosseau, who were no longer well disposed toward him, and who delighted in telling Walpole how impossible Rousseau was -- un homme ombrageux, moody, difficult, and paranoid. This inspired Walpole to write the fake letter. When Rousseau learned about it he accused Hume of being its author. This led to a bitter quarrel between them, one that was then revealed to the world with the publication of their respective accounts. Less than six months after Hume had brought Rousseau to England -- captivated by his personality and originality -- Hume was reported as calling the latter "the blackest and most atrocious villain that ever disgraced human nature."

I went to a maligned misfits party where we all vindicated an unfairly maligned thing and I went as Chumbawamba's Tubthumping and WON!! Hat tip @margaret.bsky.social for a great 2-part podcast episode that was part of my research. Also watched the recent documentary and read... So many articles....

Connell’s personal injury lawsuit sought damages to recover for the past and future medical expenses. Several media outlets have identified as the plaintiff and defendant as aunt and nephew, respectively, but the boy is actually the son of one of the plaintiff’s cousins and refers to Connell as “Auntie Jen.” While Internet and television pundits lambasted Connell, legal experts speculate the suit has more to due with our nation’s convoluted insurance practices than an attempt to punish a child. In order to trigger insurance coverage on behalf of the insurance company of the boy’s parents, Connell had to seek judgement against the boy for reckless behavior, according to her attorneys.

friend & i went to a birding event at a county park this morning & found a lost old man dog in the parking lot. he was so sweet but no collar and no chip when animal services came. hopefully just a lost farm dog and not dumped but his ears were infected/full of mites so if so they don't deserve him

I usually agree with you, and I had this yogurt bowl in Greece that was unbelievably good. I think mega high quality yogurt is key, but also doing more 1:1 with yogurt and toppings

A tuxedo cat is spied from afar sitting on a stone jutting out from a great wall in the ancient agora. He was very friendly. On an Urban Street in Athens lined with Cafe seating and apartment buildings, a cat lies in the middle of the road looking unbothered. Not a real cat: a plant vase shaped like a cat with a tail curled up to its chest stands on the stoop of a green door in a village in naxos.

I have pictures of temples and other tourist sites but there's nothing unique about them. So I will leave you with every photo I took of a cat in Greece.

I paid €25 to see an operatic tenor & orchestra performance in the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens, an ancient amphitheatre. It was unbelievable, magical, beautiful. The theatre now closes for a few years of renovation so this was a great treat -- buying tickets is the only way to get this view.

I REALLY enjoyed taking the ferry from Naxos to Athens and would do it again. The Blue Star is the one that lets you ride sort of outside with fresh air and great views. It was slower (~6 hours) but there was always another island coming along to look at.
View out the covered area of the deck of a ferry. There are chairs and tables under the covered area. There is access to the open air and an unencumbered view (besides the side of the ship) of Greek islands in the distance. The sky and sea are both blue.

The beach in Naxos just steps from my hotel in the main town was perfect. I didn't try visiting any of the others on the island -- a future trip, perhaps.

Going to share some pics/stories of my trip to Greece, will keep them in this thread.

First up: I did an ebike tour of Naxos and it was incredible, def the best thing I did. We covered about 22 miles of countryside and little towns, visiting a Byzantine church, a citron distillery, and a vineyard.

This AI bullshit is now at my local grocery store and added at least 2 minutes to my self check out because it was wrong every single time and when I told it it was wrong, it called over a human worker to check. The human agreed with me that it fucking sucks. 😤😡
