For a long-unpublished short story, I've also been surprised at how many beta readers asked me for a full novel in the setting. I've tried. I've never been able to make it work - it gets very Dan Brown and I check out 😂 So, its unlikely to happen, but I appreciate the sentiment.

It has background, "the truth" about what's going on, alternate history tidbits, and writing rules. But, ultimately, its just guidelines.

And after I've gotten a few short stories out to set the tone of the world and environment better, I'll push that out as well and possibly back away.

I’m pretty good with project mgmt. At this point, part of the issue is I’m kind of on the fence of if I’m really trying to build an audience or just have the satisfaction of saying something is “done” as encouragement to keep going. If that makes sense?

Thanks! I think this is the best route, I’m just having trouble convincing myself to push through. 😅 This story has been collecting dust for two or three years now because I’ve been having trouble polishing.

And since I’m not yet published at all, this would technically be a debut of sorts, which I’m not sure, could there be consequences for having something slightly not quite fully cooked for that?
