#AMD is a leading cause of blindness in the elderly, driven by multiple risk factors. In this study, researchers from Tübingen employed RPE cells derived from iPSC generated from donors.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is one of the main causes of blindness in the elderly population and is caused by a combination of risk factors.

The results of this research suggest that cell’s vulnerability to oxidative stress is determined by genetic risk factors within the cells. Data support the idea that RPE cells with high genetic risk are less able to withstand oxidative stress.
