Wow this was an autocorrect disaster. Meant to say "agressive fangs" and "$1000 per year for the rest of Koch's life." Oh well.

Owen had the skeleton remounted with proper mastodon proportions, and it's been on near-continuous display ever since.

When Koch showed his creation at a venue in Piccadilly Circus in 1842, Richard Owen bought it from Koch for $2000 ($80k today) plus another $1000 for the rest of Koch's life. People have been paying extravagant prices for famous fossils for a long time.

This label at the NHM is nice but it’s striking how tiny it is. However, holding and prominently advertising a gender and sex diversity tour is pretty cool!

Incidentally the British Museum did not impress me on this front, particularly with its casual placement of human remains alongside artifacts in seemingly every gallery.

This thing reallly ought to be the centerpiece of NHM’s new dinosaur hall when it opens in 5-10 years. Sophie seems kind of lonely out by the secondary entrance!

This is where they ought to be. It's wonderfully designed to allow visitors to see the marbles up close in their originally intended configuration - You look from the outside in, not the inside out. And the architecture is complimentary, not overshadowing. 😍

The narration script is also excellent. I wish I had a copy to read over! Seeing PP scenes that have been streaming for several years may not be worth $33—your mileage will vary.
