It's not the worst thing ever or anything particularly bad, but I feel like out of Sonic Adventure's playable characters, Gamma's was the one where I just kinda felt like I was going through the motions with.

maybe it's because I'm just not a fan of the mech gameplay as it is (in either Adventure game) but, I dunno. Windy Valley is fairly strong as a Gamma stage but I kinda feel the rest just don't really do much interesting with his gameplay mechanics.

Overall Gamma's story is pretty similar vibes with Amy's for me. Really strong characterization and character development, but pretty meh gameplay (though I still enjoyed it more than Amy's for the most part)

was just gonna play the first stage but then i just ended up playing through the entire campaign lol

little bit on the fence about his Red Mountain though

it does have some neat uses of alternate paths and extra areas but it does kinda just feel like I'm going through the same obstacles throughout the stage

y'know what Gamma's Windy Valley is surprisingly good

maybe it's because it's after you unlock the Jet Booster but I definitely feel like there's more substance there than the previous two stages.

i gotta love amy's ability to talk sense into others, especially those who are morally gray

imagine grok turning on elon musk and then going out of his way to destroy the other forms of AI
November 11, 2025 at 6:24 AM
i wonder if there's an AI out there that's gone through the same emotional journey as Gamma in SA1

To go back to a story note though, I do gotta say Gamma's story in particular makes some good use of visual storytelling, especially for the time.

Particularly the scene where he enters 'the wrong room' and sees Beta being disassembled. You really get this sense of dread from an emotionless robot.

I can see it being kinda satisfying just to rank up targets and combos but I feel like that's all there really is to the gameplay, which leaves it feeling kinda uninteresting and bland to me.

I don't think it's offensively bad or anything (and I like it a bit more here than in SA2 since his movement speed feels more fluid and faster) but I just find the core gameplay loop to just be... uninteresting to me
November 11, 2025 at 6:12 AM
so I gotta be honest with some of y'all

I've never been a big fan of the mech gameplay in either Adventure game

early 3D platformer camera moment

also this is random but for the longest time I thought E-102 Gamma and E-123 Omega were the same character so I was really confused when I first played through SA1 (after playing games like Heroes) and him exploding at the end
November 11, 2025 at 5:59 AM
honestly now that I think about it Gamma's story in SA1 walked so the 'Dark' story in SA2 could run
November 11, 2025 at 5:58 AM
I will say that Gamma's story is really neat. It's a bit of a juxtaposition from the rest of the game in that it takes place through the POV of one of Eggman's robots and learning what he's doing is wrong, sort of creating a bit of an interesting dynamic for a character
November 11, 2025 at 5:57 AM
I'll at least start on Gamma's campaign, why not
November 11, 2025 at 5:53 AM
granted that style of character interaction/dialogue could also be traced back to like, looney tunes and garfield which I watched a lot of as a kid but i think being a sonic fan had the most weight of influence on my art and writing style so yeah
