A tale interwoven with tenderness and hope in a setting of societal and domestic cruelty. Hosseini demystifies a region of the world that was front of center in my ignorance since grade school. An empathetic telling of the stories of those not often given a voice. Give this one a chance! 4.68 ⭐️ 💙📚

I know there is an audience for this book - I’m just not in it. While I am a massive football fan, I wish I knew the “American Kings” title wasnt meant to convey any irony. Everything in the book was so grandiose that it became monotonous. But maybe give this a chance? 3.89 ⭐️ #booksky 💙📚

First time in a while (ever?) that a book has made me say “make a movie out of this NOW”. A sci-fi thriller with a plot that kept me hooked throughout. Well done. 4.77 ⭐️ #booksky 💙📚

Probably the most inspirational memoir I’ve read. What Murray overcame in her early life and how she’s since made it her mission to help others do the same is nothing short of extraordinary. Give this one a chance if you want a tale of the impervious human spirit! 4.88 ⭐️ #booksky 📚💙

A memoir centered on the death of an immigrant mother that I grew to love. It features unique grieving across family, dual identities, connection with the deceased, insight on the artistic process, the effect of impossible beauty standards and much more. 4.48 ⭐️, give this one a chance! #booksky 💙📚

An ocean of a novel. Impossibly heavy, endlessly dark, scant on hope, but incredibly beautiful. I didn’t think I would be able to read 800+ pages so quickly. Never has a book made me question what I would do in that situation as much as this one did. Incredible. (Check content warnings) 💙📚 #booksky

A delightfully provocative book. Sapiens touches the basics of most major fields of study while remaining remarkably readable and cohesive. I am feeling insignificant and significant. Harari seems to be someone we should be listening to in the age of AI. 4.86 ⭐️ give this one a chance! #booksky 💙📚

An exploration of the mind of a psychopath that is markedly existential. What struck me was how the pace of the story was a comment on the whirlwind of mindless violence. Glad I read it, but probably not something I would return to soon. Maybe give this a chance? 4.27 ⭐️ #booksky 💙📚

A veritable banger of narrative nonfiction, one of my favorite genres. If you have any interest in learning more about espionage or a niche angle on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from the sixties to the eighties, give this one a chance! 4.85 ⭐️ #booksky 💙📚

I don’t like posting negative reviews, but the premise of this book was really promising, only to be a run of the mill mystery/thriller. Maybe it’s my fault for misinterpreting a booktok post about it. I wouldn’t give this one a chance, but if you do, check the content warnings. 3.56 ⭐️ #booksky 💙📚

One of the most unique reading experiences I’ve had. A convincing case against thinking I’ll try out. I don’t know if I would describe this book as self-help or philosophy, but I don’t know if it matters. I know there are criticisms, but I think Tolle acquits himself well. Give this one a chance! 💙📚

A masterpiece. Probably going to crack my top 8 books of all time. A reflection of the human condition which tells us morality is not black and white and that nature and nurture alone do not determine our fate. A celebration of free will. 4.87 ⭐️ give this one a chance! 💙📚 #booksky

An incredible man wrote an incredible autobiography. The tales Trevor Noah allows us to experience show tremendous perseverance, grit, poise, wit, and courage. To weave any amount of humor in a setting of apartheid and domestic abuse is remarkable. Give this one a chance! 4.73 ⭐️ #booksky 💙📚

One of the best thrillers I’ve read. Incredible twists, characters I’ll be thinking about for a while, and more commentary than what you’d expect. My only gripe is that it took a long time to get used to the writing style, which I’d describe as slightly abstract. 4.57 ⭐️ #booksky 💙📚 give it a chance!

A sobering, sweeping, and gripping mix of narrative and analysis. Stevenson expounds on the intersectional factors leading to over-incarceration and in the worst cases, execution of innocent people. The combination of commentary and self reflection is compelling. Give this one a chance! 💙📚 #booksky

Well worth the hype on booktok. Some of the most compelling dialogue I’ve ever read. Characters with complex personalities and struggles. An exploration of how misguided romanticism can lead one astray. Visceral relationships. 4.82 ⭐️, give this one a chance! 💙📚 #booksky

Just what the doctor ordered. I was craving something funny - and Rainn Wilson delivered. You don’t need to be a fan of The Office to like this one; anyone who appreciates an excavation of how family, place, and religiosity affect one’s journey of fulfillment will enjoy this one. 💙📚 #booksky

A stunning novel. I kept thinking this work was paradoxical - in the best way. Science fiction with a hefty dose of religion. A dystopia that read as tender. A world that seems outlandish and familiar at the same time. How Butler held all of these truths together is astounding. 4.5 ⭐️ #booksky 💙📚

Meh. I think this book will only resonate if you’re a person of faith. I deeply struggle with perfectionism, so I was hoping for some practical insights and strategies. This book was very scant on that, despite the name. I did appreciate the concept of “hustling for worthiness”, though. #booksky 💙📚

What magical realism should strive to be. This multi POV novel explores grief in a remarkable way. It asks what it means to be a parent, to be human. A book shouldn’t be as philosophical and suspenseful as this one is. Give this one a chance! 4.75 ⭐️ #booksky 💙📚

#BHM read; my first James Baldwin read!

“Whoever debases others is debasing himself”

“If one cannot risk oneself, then one is simply incapable of giving”

Take my review with a grain of salt, as I’m not much of a thriller guy, but I didn’t like The Silent Patient as much as the internet does. The way mental health was discussed was narrow and I’m sensitive to that. With that said, I can recognize the plot is captivating. 3.75 ⭐️ #booksky 💙📚

If you’re a fan of self help, Atomic Habits is worth a read. Not all of the concepts will work for every person or struggle, but there are a lot of actionable, simple concepts and the writing is eminently approachable. 4 ⭐️ #BookSky

Just finished Pachinko by Min Jin Lee. This informative historical fiction explores themes of duty, shame, essentialism, xenophobia, honor, and suffering. It plays with the concept of perception and identity, including that of the self. 4.5 ⭐️ #booksky 📚💙
