I've started a SubStack publication for people who are interested in writing a memoir.

People think a memoir has to be this BIG THING. I say, start simply.

Memoir or Autobiography or Family History? No matter what, it starts with writing something down. writeamemoir.substack.com/p/what-is-a-...

This is the boat hosting the mast walk contest this year. The last day of Festa, the horizontal mast you see hanging off the red fishing boat is greased. Participants have to make it out to the end of the mast and grab a flag. It’s an art. Well, slapstick comedy.

I have NO IDEA why Amazon puts books into categories that the publisher (or in my case, ME) doesn't choose, but I was (warning: newly learned phrase coming) chuffed to bunnies to see it ranking in the "Happiness" category. I didn't even know that WAS a category.

The village is preparing for its annual Festa dos Pescadores and the parking barricades are going up. HOWEVER… the locals know two important things:

1) The parking spaces won’t be needed until Wednesday at the earliest
2) It’s super-easy to move the barricades.

Laughing because my book, American Expat, is currently at #16 in "Solo Travel Guides." I did NOT put my book in that category--the Amazon algo did. It's a travel guide only in the sense that it tells you NOT to do what I did! But you know what? I'll take it. barbaragrassey.com/american-exp...

A full day of talks at the #GPS2025 conference in Seville today. Book packaging, Author Branding, Amazon Ads, & Benedict Brown's Confessions of a Six Figure Author. Steve Higgs kicked off the day with a truly motivating keynote. Our fabulous hosts made sure we were well-fed, caffeinated, and wined.

Moving abroad: Expectation vs. Reality

💭 Expectation: Sitting in a café, effortlessly speaking a new language.

😬 Reality: Staring blankly at the cashier, wondering if they asked you a question or cursed you out.
