Veterinarian. Pain management and high quality care for all are my passions.
Urolithiasis (bladder stones) are somewhat common in tortoises and generally related to poor diet or husbandry. Treatment is surgical removal and improving the husbandry. Most can be removed from an incision in the prefemoral fossa and not cutting open the plastron. #vetmed #reptiles #tortoise

Taking skull rads is absolutely vital to properly diagnosing dental (and eye) problems in rodents and lagomorphs. Teeth cannot be properly trimmed without rads and should never be trimmed with nail clippers. #vetmed

This cat had been gagging and retching for several weeks. Everything looked completely normal on exam so we took radiographs. The thin, white line in the throat is a sewing needle. Surgery was done to remove the needle and everything went well. Goes to show how important radiographs can be. #vetmed

Cystic ovaries are a fairly common finding during OVH. They don’t impact the surgery or recovery and are mostly an interesting find. #vetmed

There are no #dermatology emergencies. Until there are. This patient was obtunded, pyrexic, anemic, and hypotensive. Ventrum covered in pustules. The pyoderma caused toxic shock syndrome and she was hospitalized for treatment. #vetmed #veterinarian

More #ophthalmology fun today. This dog presented for a “weird” looking right eye. This is anterior lens luxation-a lens that has fallen through the pupil and is in the anterior chamber. The sliver of tapetum is called the aphakic crescent. #vetmed #veterinarian

Indirect ophthalmoscopy allows you to see the entire fundus at once vs a direct ophthalmoscope. This is a cat eye. Bonus points if you can tell me how to determine the species if you weren’t told. #vetmed #veterinary #ophthalmology

If female dogs are left intact they can suffer from several health problems. Pyometra, an infection in the uterus, is one of the more common. Luckily surgery is usually straightforward if done soon enough.

Even fish need veterinary care. This Jack Dempsey cichlid got into a fight with a tank mate and had an open wound as well as difficulty maintaining buoyancy.

Alright, let’s try this. Radiograph is of a 5 year old female Crested gecko with a 2 week history of inappetence. What is going on here? #veterinary #vetmed #radiograph
