I celebrated the big 5-0 last week. Can confirm--this feels accurate

Worldbuilding problems. (Looted from another account.)

Well. That's enough googling Warhammer tonight...

I'm trying to track down a copy of the Rogue Trader core rulebook (ttrpg) from (now defunct) Fantasy Flight. But I'm seeing prices that make my eyes pop out. Anyone have a line on a copy that might be 50-6o spacebucks?

I had the same reaction.

Aug 28 - Scariest RPG? Hands down it's Alien. The panic mechanic has you adding facehugger dice to do cool things. Failure could mean you lose your cool and become a target. Or catatonic. Either way, it perfectly captures the horror of the films I have the core book, but I want the starter set!

Aug 27 - Game you'd like a new edition of. I'm going to catch shit for this: TRAVELLER. Not so much the rules, but a restatement of 'em. Core books 2022 comes close, but it's missing stuff. I'm not fond of the cover art. Or the 3d CGI interior art. It's trying too hard to be D&D of space RPGs.

Aug 26 - Favorite character sheet. I know there are some really artsy ones out there. I tend for the simpler ones. But I do like some well-themed character sheets, so I'll go with the ones for Tales From the Loop. Easy to use and make templates for different character types too.

Aug 24 Complex/Simple game I own. Honey Heist is the simplest. Complex? Lancer. Mechs and their pilots in the far future. RAD, but also complicated. Has a website to help run it more smoothly. Worth it, though.

Aug 23 - Coolest looking RPG product. Please don't ask me to narrow that down! Many are already mentioned but one that just got a second edition (I own the first) is Ultraviolet Grasslands. Imagine if Moebius and Heavy Metal magazine created a roleplaying game. Here's the version I have. So cool!

Aug 22 - Best secondhand purchase: Star Frontiers! Bought a copy of the box set off eBay years ago. It's dripping with inspirational content. The game itself is okay, but the concepts inside--and that cover art--[chef's kiss]! Here's a pic of the day it arrived in January of 2010.

Aug 21 - Favorite LICENSED RPG. Hmmm. Right now I'm VERY much enjoying the new Captain's Log book for Star Trek Adventures. Easily adaptable into a multiperson game. it's a streamlined version of the main game, plus a TON of great background info and tables that *cough* shoulda' been the main game.

Aug 20 - Will still play in 20 years. Sorry about this, but it's going to be Star Wars. That's a super basic answer, but it's the kid in me!

Some day I hope to run the Darkstryder campaign.

Aug 18 - Fave game system. Toss up between WEG Star Wars (I know, I know) and Tales From the Loop. The latter also uses d6s but only a 6 nets you success. Plus there's some really beautiful mechanics around relationship building and getting into trouble as a teenager!
August 31, 2023 at 4:16 PM
Aug 16 - game I wish I owned: At the moment, I wish I had my grubby paws on the d20 KOTOR book so I could adapt it to my beloved d6 WEG system. Right after Wizards lost the license, the book shot up from $40 to $300. It's come down now, but still goes for more than $150.

Aug 12 - Old game I still play? Easy. Still so much fun and now that there's five TV shows, 2 more trilogies, and some one-off films to pull from it's a never-ending saga I can mine for material.
August 31, 2023 at 3:56 PM
Aug 11 - Weirdest game I've played? I've played a lot of Mutant Crawl Classics, but likely The Strange (think Sliders meets X-files) takes the title--especially when one of my friends GM'd us in a bottle-episode inside a liminal surf beach at night. Super eerie and yet strangely comforting.

WELP my goal of keeping up with #RPGaDay2023 has crashed miserably. So let's see if we can wrap this up in a speedrun thread on the last day...

Finally - Aug. 9, #RPGaDay2023! My fave dice? These d6s from Black Oak Workshop. I have multiples of both, but I adore my Lightspeed dice because when I run Star Wars, the 6 is a wild die you get to add & re-roll. There's no better metaphor in Star Wars for success than a working hyperdrive!

Aug 8 #RPGaDay2023 (almost caught up!) I don't have a favorite character, but here's one I loved playing from a 2018 game of Mutant Crawl Classics where I was a sentient plant named Maple Moriarty (see terrible sketch). I don't think he survived the funnel, but I had fun playing not-Groot!

Puppy intermission: UFOs discovered in a neighbor's yard!
August 9, 2023 at 7:52 PM
We're almost there! #RPGaDay2023 Aug 7 - Smartest RPG I've played is Delta Green! PCs are agents in a variety of real-world specialties (police, military, science, lawyers, etc.) who secretly investigate Cthulhu-esque mysteries. Not easy to shake after playing. Watch for this later in Aug. BTW. ;-)
August 9, 2023 at 7:46 PM
Still getting caught up with #RPGaDay2023. Fave game I don't get to play? Gamma World (2010). It's a streamlined version of the ballyhooed DnD 4e, but I play it even more trim using the power-up and mutation cards and just basic actions. I ran it (about 2 years ago) at Con of the North. So much fun!

Current conditions:

Temp: 82.9° F
Dew pt: 58.1° F
Feels like: Not enough breeze to make a hot dog feel cool.

Getting caught up with #RPGaDay2023 posts. Aug 5 - Oldest Game I've Played is the precursor to Gamma World: Metamorphosis Alpha! I've played the original but also an adaptation by Goodman Games run by my pal Matt, a loyal Mutant Crawl Classics fan. He's run it using the MA setting to much delight!
