…Fly Fishing, nature, travel, food, beer and bourbon…

Ask me how you can get your heart back from the Jesus.
That’s not a bad idea, but I’m driving there from Vegas one morning and returning that same day. I won’t have enough time to buy and then sell. I’d love to just rent an atv from someone.

And the video doesn’t deter me. I fish small streams all of the time and the trout might move really far up or down the stream depending on season, weather, spawning, or maybe a different reason.

Part of being a fly angler is faith. I just have to believe they’re up there waiting for me. Haha

Apparently her husband will take you up the mountain in a side by side, wait all day while you fish, then take you back down for $1500. She said they fish up there themselves.

That can’t be the only way to get there and back.

I tried last year in a rented 2wd ram pickup and made it about 7 miles before the switchback turns were just too steep. No cell coverage so if I got stuck or rolled I’d be on my own up there. I spoke to a guide that said the stream and trout are still up there.

A whopper of a stonefly with a NZ indicator, while not-so-secretly wishing I was fishing a dry fly.

I agree with that.

Haha! I caught my personal best on a fly this year and that tank of a rainbow put up a hell of a fight.

My son lives very near to you, and my daughter lives between hickory and Asheville. Although I never get a chance to fish when I’m visiting them (priorities and such, I guess).

My work sends me to western NY and all over PA though, so I can’t complain. I always find time to fish on those trips.

I know that feeling. I’ve always enjoyed watching my kids play their respective sports. I still love to watch them play. Treasure every moment of it.

I’ve never caught a fish that size on a fly. Must’ve been a fun fight when it woke up.

Virginia, NC, and Georgia all have some great brookie streams in the mountains.

I keep at it because it is hard. Every time I fish I learn something new, or make a mistake that eventually leads to learning something new.

The game is never won with fly fishing.

Holy hell, sir, that’s quite a fish.

That’s a pretty fish. Thanks for sharing.

Do you mind me asking what area you’re from?

Our brookies aren’t big, and they aren’t trophies, but they’re beautiful, and in they’re little mountain world they are the apex predators. Pound for pound they fight hard and aren’t raised in tanks. They are survivors to be admired.

I miss the “mite” days. Enjoy it. It starts to get pretty complicated when they get older. Most games we just hope he’ll get through it safely. He’s in a juniors program now and it can be scary to see how rough these young fellas play.

We live in the blue ridge mountains and absolutely love it. I’m originally from DC, and spent one very long year in Boca Raton FL.

I’m glad to be back in the mountains. I missed the craft breweries, denim, flannel, and trout.

We loved it. My teenage son lives in NH for hockey, so we’ll be back up there in the spring to help him move back home and I plan on doing some fishing while I’m there.

He asked what my favorite 3 flies are. I’m openly admitting that my 3 favorites are not necessarily a trout’s favorite.

Just visited Portsmouth for the first time last month. Beautiful area.

Same. Every time I go to a bigger stream with friends I think about how much I’d rather be on a quiet mountain creek.
December 7, 2024 at 4:40 PM
Same. I hike in the mountains for the small stream brookies and the ultralights are really comfortable. I’d wear them as a hiking boot even if I wasn’t going to fish. Very durable, too. I’ve beat the hell out of mine for a few years and the pull tan on on one heel is the only casualty.
