Opponent of Fascism.
I... actually feel safer with an American military that looks like Maxwell Klinger than one that looks like Pete Hegseth.

Klinger (fictionally) cross-dresses to get out of Korea. Hegseth is a corrupt, violent, racist, alcoholic freak who got his job by championing murderous war criminals on Fox.

A storm is coming - even were I less weather-wise after a lifetime in the Bay Area, the clouds and wind prophesy it.

But I think that in my personal mythology, a bright ring around the moon is a good omen.

These people need to be shunned, they need to be mocked and despised by every person who values freedom or equality. Employers should be boycotted for hiring them.

They are enemies of the idea of America, and they will destroy everything we value if we don't stop them.

One indicator of a financial bubble is that investment decisions are made on the basis of what other investors are doing rather than the performance or prospects of the economic activity underlying the investment.

Another is relentless (and well-funded) denial that the run-up in prices could end.

The sad thing is that I can't even use my Saw Gerrera image to make fun of Garland. He didn't even follow the rules, he went far out of his way and bent every rule in order to protect people who would gladly not only destroy him but also the Constitution he swore to uphold.

Pritzker explains that giving in to the Dark Side only serves Donald Trump.

Dude is the reason you don't mess with Chicago.

Sometimes only Leonard McCoy can capture the appropriate degree of moral outrage - here, he excoriates key Federalist Society leader Dr. Richard Daystrom.

That's weird - they never did an "FBI Informer" Trump among his completely insane cosplay NFTs.

It's really eerie how someone can be, like, wearing an SS uniform even when they're not, technically, wearing an SS uniform.

I screen-capped this in 2023 knowing that it would be fun to point and laugh at later.

But Altman was obviously a deer-in-the-headlights lackwit even then and OpenAI was an unworkable mess of a corporate entity - people still made lots of money by being wrong about him at the right time.

Fact: Americans collectively deserve this humiliation for re-electing Trump.

Fact: It remains a humiliation.

Holy guacamole, she's right.

The Republican Congress has literally memory-holed parts of Art. I of the Constitution relating to their own powers.

Side by side comparison with Westlaw below.

This would be terrifyingly Orwellian but for the fact that these are morons.

Professor Maul, any comments on the appointment of a 30 year old propagandist to one of the federal government's most important ethics offices?

Looks like more than 25 aftershocks of 5.0+ magnitude so far. Note that they run along a northeast to southwest line parallel to the plate boundary (offset under the continental plate). Looks like the 20th century was unusually quiet & subduction zone earthquakes are more common than we thought.

Updated USGS estimate is that the Russia earthquake was 8.8 instead of 8.7.

Cool - looks as though DOGE hasn't yet fire-axed the National Tsunami Warning Center at NOAA.

Forecast peaks look too small for the west coast to be concerning (except Crescent City - they always get the worst due to coastal geography), but waiting on reports from Russia & Japan.
