Were they ever? I’ve been in higher ed most of my career and shared governance as always been important, but it would be impossible to actually turn over all decision making to the masses. It could never be a true democracy.

It may be true for some universities, but not all. Constantly holding up the top 7 or 10 universities as examples only hurts the hundreds of other institutions that don’t operate in the same way. Higher ed isn’t a monolith.

Do you have a preference between the islands? It’s more expensive to travel to Curaçao, but cheaper to stay there. It’s the opposite in Aruba- cheap to get there and expensive to stay.

Even when I lived in red states no one has batted an eye. It’s sad if
folks allow that to manifest towards a patient’s family.
