Citizen of Exeter, advocating for a healthier, greener future in our city.
Despite Exeter having 10% of Devon's population, and the Liberal Democrats requiring 4 Exeter Green/Lib Dem Councillors to vote through their motions, there is ZERO Exeter representation on the new Devon County Council cabinet...

So many bikes at the County Show this year! (There are more behind me and this is just one entrance!)
Perhaps it's time to get serious about bike parking instead of just using a fence....

@stuarthughes747.bsky.social Thanks for getting the planter moved, things are much safer again!

Sorry to hear about your election loss, you were a great Cabinet Member, and did a lot of great work. I hope the new administration can continue that.

2 weeks of the High Street being shut, and the Utilities contractors leave this shoddy job!!
How is this acceptable for one of Devon's busiest streets?? @stuarthughes747.bsky.social @exetergreens.bsky.social @exetercouncil.bsky.social @exetercycling.bsky.social

Rifford Road (Exeter) Cycle path is now open! And funding to design Phase 2 of the project, and to deliver the Sparrow Crossing on Honiton Road has been confirmed by Devon County Council.
Great work from @stuarthughes747.bsky.social and his team as well as @exetercycling.bsky.social!

Final phase of resurfacing is going well. The cycle lane has also reached the end of the route, and just needs surfacing, and the Parallel Crossing at the end.

Good to see signs around this hazard now. Hopefully it isn't too long before it is moved back - thanks @stuarthughes747.bsky.social

This is why building cycle paths is so important

Local developer Nooko has announced that scaffolding is coming down for newly renovated Patenoster House. Very exciting, and hopefully means work can begin on the Royal Clarence soon 👀

👋 @stuarthughes747.bsky.social, after last week, contractors working on Magdalen Road forgot to put this planter back. It's now partially blocking the bike lane, forcing cyclists into the oncoming traffic. Any chance it could be moved back? Also any word on ANPR cameras 😁

@steveracemp.bsky.social when will we see action on the pavement parking consultation?

Day #339

Phase 2 of resurface is now well under way:

To all the people and traders who campaigned against bus priority measures along Heavitree road:

My bus has crawled from Town to East Wonford Road for more than 30 minutes.

But the buses are fine!?: our average speed is between 3-5 mph.

No one uses the buses!: the bus is packed and standing

No LTN
No safe streets
Traffic is just as bad, and getting worse.

🙄

Ironically, traffic is only getting worse, despite no LTN. Traffic trying to turn onto Sweetbrier Lane today was backing up so far it was holding up other traffic, including buses.

No safe streets
Worse traffic
Bad decisions made on no evidence.

Hopefully if one day Exeter get's more control over the operation of the buses, it can ensure that drivers are properly trained to drive down the high street. It will also be a lot more pleasant once all buses are electric.
I think we could route more buses to St David's avoiding the high street.

There's a good spire next to the (real) Exeter College as well!

Extra markings have also been added to this section of path, with works currently underway on the first section.
The cycle path is slowly progressing it's way up the hill

Phase 1 of the road resurfacing is nearly complete! This has added the missing road markings, continuous cycle paths across junctions as well as a lovely smooth surface for the road.
December 13, 2024 at 5:29 PM
Great to see that there is finally some work on resurfacing the road. It does mean a long diversion for cars, but what's been built of the cycle path so far will allow pedestrians and cyclists to safely get past the works

Construction on a vital cycle link is currently underway in Exeter. Here is the thread I've been keeping since construction started in March. From now on, I will try to keep this thread here updated, but to get up to speed, here is a link to the twitter thread:
