It can be tied to the boots theory, sure a nice pair of boots will last longer but if you can't afford the premium you buy the cheaper ones and end up paying more in the long run because they wear out sooner.

Also I want to add that even if the cost for doing it yourself ends up being cheaper (ignoring time) you can't buy an oz of olive oil at a time. Many people can't afford the upfront cost of buying the whole $30+ dollars worth of ingredients.

can easily exceed an hour. Even my fastest and cheapest recipes still take 30 minutes to cook at home, not including cleaning.

My local Domino's sells their 14" 1 topping pizza for $7.99. Granted it's a coupon deal but it's been going on for a long time now. And it's only a block away so no need to account for gas.

And as others have said time is money. The time spent proofing the dough and preparing all the ingredients
