As seen on anitwitter since 2009, departed those accursed shores for this new land.

Anime, international relations, history, home decor, outdoors, scifi, TTRPGs, Pittsburgh & Western PA, a timeline veering wildly. Too old to blog, too young to die

While at the Omiya museum I did buy myself a magnet of the Raichou train mark route that used to use those trains, because I had a really cool experience getting close to one of the actual birds on a hike in Tateyama.

Thinking back to the train museums I went to on my recent trip to Japan and thinking I really liked the one design used for special express trains.

Found the name. Huh, it would be neat to have a model of one. Shame they seem to START at $180.

It's this one tho

Oh this is what the AI in Eclipse Phase did too.

The Kill Team app lets you favorite team rules now. After faving all my teams I really don't have THAT many, right, I can definitely buy more.

I will hear no slander of the FIAT Multipla, at least in the design and cuteness department

Only works in the Wargame: Red Dragon timeline where China wants Hong Kong back early and tries to invade in the mid 80s (assuming you as the UK and Commonwealth win)

The JR East museum at Omiya had a series of hand creams and soaps woth train themes. How was I not to buy that?

I got the Scent of an Old-Fashioned Train for myself and it really does smell like the old wooden interior rail cars at the museum. Polished wood, old fabric, coupling grease. Love it.

Somewhat to my surprise I found a coin locker large enough for my check bag (just) so I went to Naritasanshinsoji. The gardens behind the main hall are at peak foliage.

Heading back home today. It's been a great trip, as always here. Spent the last full day hiking with friends around Kamakura and then getting lunch and dinner later. It's been good to see everyone here again. Until next time.

I got to the Skytree area earlier than expected last night before dinner with friends and wandered around, and found a park with a small shrine that has some cool illumination. A lot of places are doing that around this time of year to get as much as possible out of the foliage season.

I went to a cafe run by Lexus? Earlier today my friend and I went to a farmer's market in Aoyama and she suggested it since I might find it interesting.

It's not exceptionally car-themed but I guess it's Lexus promoting their overall luxurious image? The chicken curry was pretty good.

I think this is my new champion potato chips. Wasabeef (wasabi beef) has held the title for a long time but this yuzu koshou one has taken it.

This made for a good shot while I was walking back from To-ji to Kyoto Station. It's making me think of trying to make a house facade diorama background for my model Super Cub.

After a break we walked back through the former Imperial Palace grounds just after it got dark. It's a public park and open 24/7 but there's little light because it's also a bird sanctuary.

Which made for an interesting view of the place. Sort of ancient days vibes mixed with spooky.

Amused to see that Shimogamo has a shrine to rugby, originally from the spot where the first game of rugby in Japan was played around 1902 iirc. The enshrined spirit communes through the Ball.

Signed Kyoto rugby team jerseys and rugby ball-shaped wish plaques nearby too.

Spent my last day in Kyoto outside, at Shimogamo Shrine and the Botanical Gardens with my friend who came up from Osaka for the day.

Sadly the replica of Kamo no Chomei's hut was not at Kawai Shrine in Shimogamo because it's being relocated to another spot in the complex. But a nice visit anyway.

Tariffs will continue until we have Great Depression 2.

I appreciate that Rakkasan Tea has always been clear and loud about this. I wish more companies were. Jobs and money on the line in Texas and Laos and connecting points in between.

Spent the rest of the day at Heian Shrine and its gardens, the Kyocera Museum's Mingei exhibit, and some walking around the Pontochou Alley area to get a late lunch.

The city is really beautiful with its waterways and mixed architecture. Decent foliage now too, probably even better in a week or so

Successfully got to Kiyomizudera early enough that it wasn't absolutely swamped with tourists and school field trip groups. Though it was by the time I left.

Good weather for the views from up there, and I visited a much smaller nearby temple that was a nice quiet side trek.

Good, quick dinner continuing the theme of trains by going to a place with a huge train diorama taking up one wall built by the chef.

Then over to a sentou bath house. The baths were nice, had a big enclosure behind glass with parakeets living in it you see from the baths. Milk after, of course.
