97. Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix (2007, Video Game, Replay)
The level design sucks shit and like half of the heartless bosses also aren't very good and yet I can hardly care because Sora just feels so good to control. And the prologue is still an alltimer in the series

96. Kids Return (1996, Film)
There's a certain kind of listlessness and melancholy captured here that just really resonates for me. Plus watching it on a kind of shitty dvd rip really enhanced the vibes. Clearly I need to watch more Kitano

I have mixed feelings towards Unicorn as a story (the novels, the show is more just dislike) and I think the Unicorn as a design itself is kinda ugly but seeing it in person is still pretty damn cool

95. Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988, Film, Rewatch)
My first time watching this ever since my dad first showed it to me back in around 5th grade where it became maybe the most formative piece of art to me. And luckily, it still goes so hard.

94. Pokemon Legends: Z-A (2025, Video Game)
It's pretty good tbh. Or at least I had a good time, maybe I'm easy to please. I mean come on, they gave Skarmory a mega evolution and it's sick.

93. Kingdom Hearts Final Mix (2002, Video Game, Replay)
It remains a classic. Playing through it in JP I'm not sure which was more jarring, Hikari instead of Simple and Clean or the Japanese voices for all the Disney characters.

Kingdom Hearts IV looking good

Guy who goes to the Pokemon Center in Shibuya just for ZA and also a Drapion plush, which is I guess my favorite guy now.

92. Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories (2004, Video Game, Replay)
Going back to CoM it is astonishing how much better it is than Re:CoM. Like they really kinda fucked that one up huh. Though at the end of Sora's story RNG fucked me hard and I spent hours grinding for one map card. Still pretty good.

91. Flicker Style: A Murder Perfect for Kagami Kimihiko (2001, Novel)
If nothing else, the act of reading it makes for an experience. Idk I really want to love it but I can only feel that it had some cool ideas and execution but flopped in some key areas. I'll have to really think on it more

90. Shuten Order (2025, Video Game)
Another win for TooKyo this year. There's a lot of fun characters and story beats, insane visual flair, and some of Takada's best work since No More Heroes.

89. Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc (2025, Film)
I do generally dislike the trend of taking chunks of manga material and turning them into movies that stand kind of separate from the TV episodes, but I think it worked really well here. I miss Beam.

87 & 88. Reign of Fire (2002, Film) & Shaun of the Dead (2004, Film)
A bizarre double feature I watched on the plane to Japan completely exhausted. I barely remember much of them but it was a good time. "The only thing worse than dragons, Americans." Banger

86. Pink Flamingos (1972, Film, Rewatch)
I love good classic trash. And I'm gonna miss you Baltimore

85. Fear & Hunger (2018, Video Game)
Idk it's fine. Conceptually interesting but in play I just didn't find it engaging. Maybe dampened by having played 2 first but I think if I started here I would've liked it less. Designs in the back half are sick though

84. ActRaiser (1990, Video Game)
An interesting blend of action platformer and city sim. The sim parts were actually pretty fun, the platforming not so much. The most interesting choice the game makes is having confirm/jump on B and cancel/attack on Y. Why would you do that?

83. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (2025, Video Game)
A perfectly acceptable RPG utterly ruined by discourse and also a fucking dogshit parry system. What were they thinking???? The writing is fine and characters mostly solid. Tsukumojuuku but worse and French

82. Naked Lunch (1991, Film)
Really cool stuff going on here. Love the effects as usual for Cronenberg, and his approach to adaptation is also just way better than somehow trying to do a more "straightforward" telling of the book

81. No More Heroes (2007, Video Game, Replay)
It still owns. And it continues to be more relevant as "the grind" has just gotten worse and worse.

80. Naked Lunch (1959, Novel)
I well and truly could not describe how I feel about the actual contents of the book so instead I'll say that reading most of it exhausted and sweaty on DC public transit is the best environment to read it.

79. Hyper Light Drifter (2016, Video Game)
Short and also pretty fun. Combat/exploration isn't like the best out there but it's good enough save for some minor complaints. Good vibes and great music though unfortunately I can't say I really got anything from the narrative elements

78. Tampopo (1985, Film)
Never felt hungrier watching something even though I ate only 30 minutes before seeing it. Absolute banger, big fan of the dude named Piss-Ken.

77. Fear & Hunger 2: Termina (2022, Video Game)
An interesting one. Cool aesthetics and writing. Mechanically though, I think for the most part it was more tedious than it was ever difficult. But that's only true at the start. Once I got powerful every fight became the same pretty much.
